La Liga puts the Premier League in the shade. 21:43 - May 26 with 11101 views | trampie | La Liga has won roughly 2/3rds of all European competitions over the last decade. Lots of hype by the English regarding the Premier League but they are not even in the same ball park as the mighty La Liga teams.

La Liga puts the Premier League in the shade. on 08:49 - May 27 by Joe_bradshaw | Middlesbrough and Fulham have been in European finals during the Premier League era. You include the words Premier League in the title of your thread then say that football existed before the Premier League. It did, when Liverpool, Man U, Nottingham Forest and Villa were European champions. If you want to go back far enough I am old enough to remember Cardiff in a European semi final. Yes and Atletico and Sevilla are two of the strongest teams in Spain. Middlesborough and Fulham are yo-yo clubs if you’re being kind. It’s the PL equivalent of Numancia and Zaragoza in finals. You really are polishing a turd here. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Zaragoza and Seville have only one La Liga title between them, it just underlines how much better La Liga is. [Post edited 27 May 2018 11:30]

That may be so, but you were responding to a post about Atlético, not Zaragoza (who didn’t beat anyone in those finals). I haven’t checked Atléticos history, but I’d be very surprised if they’d only won La Liga once.

I apologise it was Zaragoza that beat Premier League giants the Arsenal in a European final, Atletico beat Fulham and Seville hammered Boro, so many La Liga wins over Premier League opposition its hard to keep up, an ex Spurs man [Spanish player] scored an unbelievable never to be forgotten last minute winner against Englands #1 keeper after a Welshman had equalised for the Gunners.

That was 20 odd years ago in a competition that no longer exists. Quite possibly La Liga was stronger before the PL tv money exploded.

It makes no difference, since 2006 Barca have beaten Arsenal 2-1, Man Utd 2-0 and 3-1 and Real have beaten Liverpool 3-1 all in Champions League finals. In the Europa League in that time frame, Seville have beaten Middlesbrough 4-0, Atletico beat Fulham 2-1 and Seville have beaten Liverpool 3-1. That is 7 head to heads in finals between La Liga teams and Premier League teams since 2006 and La Liga teams have won the lot, 5 of them by margins of 2 goals or more, astonishing how much better La Liga teams are than Premier League teams. La Liga teams are in a different league to Premier League teams they are that much better.

What! Better than Spurs? We have some teams inn the Premier League & Championship that could the book on all of that. They produce better players and more technically capable players than English League team manage which is why so few Brits make it abroad, [Post edited 27 May 2018 11:58]

Now we are close to agreeing. Barca are better than anyone in the PL, so are Real. No arguments from me. Sevilla and Atlético are their equivalent of Liverpool/Spurs/Arsenal. Middlesbrough and Fulham are top Championship/bottom PL teams. Our equivalent of Girona or Cádiz. There is a much bigger gap in quality between the top few teams there and the rest. Going back to your point about points totals, 30 would have been enough to stay in La Liga last season, not 43.

I wouldn't mind, the opposition is peripheral. Guaranteed European football. If all Welsh teams were in the league it would be stronger than the Scottish League and everyone seems to think Rangers and Celtic are among the bigger teams in Europe. The advantage the Scots have is none of their populations are close to Premier League (or English League) sides while Wales is - most of North Wales' football supporters go to the Liverpool & Manchester area, I know loads in mid Wales who support Midlands teams. And we will now see quite a few Swansea 'fans' making more of an effort to see their favourite sides in Cardiff, London or the North West of England. Cake and eat scenario - Our under 23s play League of Wales.

La Liga puts the Premier League in the shade. on 12:20 - May 27 with 886 views | Drizzy | La Liga has been miles ahead of the PL since 2008. In the last 10 years they've dominated European football. Even beyond winning the trophies, they've consistently had teams in the quarters and semis. Yes there's a big gulf between the top 6/7 teams and the rest of the teams but it's not much different in the Prem. The bottom 7 or 8 PL teams are usually utter dogsh*t as well.

Atl Bilbao have won La Liga 8 times and Valencia 6 times, Valencia made back to back Champions League finals in 2000 and 2001, there is only Real, Barca and Atletico above them pair for La Liga titles yet you have not mentioned them. 30 pts would not have kept Deportivo in the league just like 34 pts would not have kept Swansea City in the Premier League.

The hypothetical point was whether Swansea would have been relegated. 30 points would have seen us finish above Deportivo, Las Palmas and Malaga. It’s a harder league to win, it’s an easier league to survive in.

Other casual observers over here say the exact opposite that its an easy league to win and harder to survive in. Swansea would not have got 10 points in that league.
