Mike Houlihan? He was a character too, so many stories.

I was in the Vic for his "closing down sale" everything must be drunk, and it was! Mike kept a small axe behind the bar and (I can neither confirm or deny this story by the way) the story goes somebody complained they were cold so he came round the bar, axe in hand, took their chair, chopped it up and threw it on the fire. True story or urban legend...... Calling Philly james a gentle giant, I saw him throw someone out of the Gari once and it wasn't gentle! Not a man to flock around with.

Nice guy Dougie, good company, and not a bad boxer. He won the Welsh Middleweight title in the early 1980's, but found it tough when he went in with the better fighters like Errol Christie and Mark Kaylor.

If i remember right he was in demand for warm up fights for the real top guys as they knew they'd be in a scrap once they got in the ring with him. Must be well into his 60's now.
