Has voted to criminalise abortion at every stage of pregnancy, with no exception for rape and incest. Abortion is now a class A felony, meaning doctors found guilty of performing abortions could be punished with up to 99 years in prison.

In the same week, the US reportedly draws up plans to send 120,000 troops to Iran.

Wish I shared your optimism Tom. There'll be plenty on here, and in society as whole, supporting the lunatics' forthcoming aggression against Iran. Same as it ever was.

Trump has a re election coming up. A war with Iran would be great for his ratings (and ego).

This is really what this is all about.

Only women have the right to decide about their own bodies.

You cannot have 25 middle class white men telling millions of women what they can and cannot do with their bodies.

This will soon be reversed.

Feck Trump.

Well said. Feminists in Alabama should list the business interests of the politicians who facilitated the legislation and ask all women to boycott the companies and products concerned.

No, a war with Iran would be disastrous for his ratings and ensure he'd be thrashed in the 2020 election.
Had Hillary won in 2016 there'd have been a much greater chance of further US military action in the region.
It's not impossible that Trump will listen to the siren voices of people like John Bolton but those advocating war would have had a much more sympathetic ear if it had been Mrs Clinton's.
The major danger Trump poses is less an eagerness to go to war than a reluctance to use force should it be justified.

I agree with you that every woman should have the right to decide on whether they wish to have an abortion or not.
The governor who signed the law, with as much keenness as any of the 25 men, is a woman. There are many women as determined to tell a woman what she can and can't do with her body.
I hope the law will soon be reversed but increasingly US States are voting in measures to restrict, if not ban, abortion.

Incorrect. All Trump is concerned with is his voter base and a war with Iran (heck even an escalation of tensions) will keep his mouth-breathers on side.

No, Trump is a throwback to eighty years ago. His base are far more isolationist than the Democrats.
I appreciate how disliked Trump is but it is a complete misconception to believe he is a warmonger, or that his supporters (in the main) are either. The vast majority of Trump's supporters have never been outside The USA and have no interest in the rest of the world.
With the exception of Bush Junior all the Presidents who've taken America into war have been Democrats; I exclude Bush Senior and the first gulf war as that was an international action. The biggest danger is not Trump going to war, it is Trump sending out signals that he wouldn't be prepared to go to the aid of any ally who is attacked; and that is an attitude that would go down well with the mouth-breathers as you call them. "Why should our boys die defending Latvia, Poland or even The UK?" is something to keep them on side.
It's good that there are comparatively few American boots on the ground in the middle-east, had Hillary won that hell would be even hotter now. It isn't good that there could be a reluctance to keep US troops in Europe.

There are a few inaccuracies in what you say.
As someone who now spends 80% of the time in the USA, it’s certainly not true that most Americans dislike Trump, far from it. DT will win the next election, very comfortably.

Also you say the vast majority of DT supporters have never been abroad, what evidence do you have to back that up ? And even if that’s true, the USA is huge country, much bigger than Europe itself, and you would have to ask yourself the question, why would Americans want to go abroad, when they have everything they could possibly want within their own country.

Doctors, not politicians. Because they say when it’s actually an unborn child rather than a potential unborn child.

Tell me this. Do you believe that someone on a life support system in a permanent vegetative state can ever be turned off or is it an absolute necessity that they remain hooked up forever?

The final say with all abortion legislation in the past and in the future rests with politicians.

Previously it was 28 weeks, now it's 24 weeks, because a child has a,better chance of survival. This in my mind is irrelevant. In the 70s human life began at 28 weeks, now it begins at 24 weeks. The only change is medical advances to allow a,premature baby to survive. The human gestation period has not changed.

The comparison of somebody at deaths door with a human baby that without intervention would live a,full and healthy life is completely spurious.

The simple question is, at what point does human life begin?

What a ridiculous thing to say. Should we not treat someone who has a heart attack, with modern medicine, because that medicine may not have been around 30 years ago ?

That’s definitely not a simple question.
