No, I agree that it's stressful and not a good thing to be going through at all, but there are much worse things happening to people around the world and jokes can and often do help the situation.
Often though, jokes can be about some horrendous things and do not help the situation, but are still accepted. If you've watched Frankie Boyle then you know what I mean.
