| Coronavirus figures on 13:41 - Jun 12 by Kilkennyjack | Drakeford has been outstanding. He has an advantage though, in that he actually does care about saving lives. Economies will recover, corpses will not. England should follow the Professor. Plenty of good work to benefit from. |
Do you realise that England's infection rate on the whole seems to be dropping as much as ours whilst their economy is slowly picking up and morale improves? Once again today, old wattle neck has refused to give any information on easing restrictions. If this carries on we will be in dire need of the English to buy second homes to kick start our housing market. Do you really think that is outstanding leadership?

| Coronavirus figures on 13:37 - Jun 12 by Scotia | But that drop is still nowhere near the drop that is being seen in Scotland, Northern Ireland or possibly, for that matter, England. We've been tracking above them for at least three weeks. As you say the outbreaks are highly localised, so why can't people living in less affected areas travel to see relatives or go to the beach as they could if they lived in rural England? Drakeford has very little to be proud of. |
The childrens commissioner for England has suggested they should follow the Welsh method over schools. The ONS has produced figures showing the R in Wales is the lowest in the UK. These people must be wrong.
| Coronavirus figures on 14:01 - Jun 12 with 975 views | exhmrc1 | Most of the corona virus deaths in Powys are recorded in Wales. The upper Swansea valley including Ystradgynlais and Abercrave go to Morriston Hospital. People from the Sennybridge, Brecon, Builth and Crickhowell go to Price Charles in Merthyr and Nevill Hall in Abergavenny and place like Rhyader and Machynlleth go to Bronglais in Aberystwyth. only a very small proportion go to England and the population of Powys is a small proportion of those living in Wales. | | | |

If not wrong then outdated. Another successful day in Drakeford's locked down Wales, new cases:- Scotland - 27. WALES - 77. Well done Mark, avoid a second wave by keeping the first one going. Looks like Wales really are going for herd immunity.

Maybe have a think about how bad it would have been without a sensible Welsh Government locking down for longer.

Then why do public health Wales keep publishing their figures every day for Powys with the warning they do not include deaths in English hospitals. Perhaps they should include them as well.

Now now KK your rules, no mitigating data, just flat numbers Poor old Drakers though being misquoted? in the press... ‘One area where a lot of pressure is building is in tourism. The Welsh Secretary Simon Hart wrote to the First Minister earlier this week to criticise his comments in a newspaper interview. The First Minister denied that he’d said tourism in Wales was ‘over’ for the year but said it would not be returning to a normal way of operating. And the Welsh Association of Visitor Attractions which represents 65 tourism businesses including Zip World, Folly Farm, Welsh Mountain Zoo, Snowdon Mountain Railway and Dan yr Ogof Show Caves issued a joint statement warning that ‘Wales’ second largest industry is on the brink of collapse.’ They’ve urged the First Minister to publish a ‘roadmap’ setting out when the tourism industry can see the possibility of reopening here in Wales. Good old folly farm, many a happy day. Let’s hope many more to come for all these businesses. Amazing the impact on businesses and families. It seems that only 2% of deaths in the UK have been in the under 50s Also didn’t realise Drakers had: ‘also indicated that the ban on travelling more than five miles in the country would remain in place well into July’

So people from Ystradgynlais who have died, the second largest (give or take) town in Powys are recorded in England even though they will have been taken to Morriston or Singleton?

No most people in Powys have their deaths recorded there. Those that go to hospital in England dont get shown on our figures here. Even if all the Powys new cases and deaths were in England it would only have a minimal effect on our Welsh figures. The Welsh population of 3 Million is far higher than the 130,000 population in Powys which is 4% of the overall population before taking into account the numbers in Powys who go to Morriston, Singleton, Price Charles, Bronglais and Nevil Hall hospitals and possibly Wrexham Maelor as well. 8 of the 12 biggest towns in Powys would go to Welsh hospitals. Approximately 1% of the overall population would go to England. Pembrokeshire which has a similar size population to Powys has 281 cases and Powys 296 and this is very much in keeping with population size.

Those first set of figures are from when the R0 in the article you quoted was calculated. The second set show an increase in the R0 figure to probably higher than 1,that is not a good trend. And certainly not an indication that our lock down is working. In fact Scotland, Northern Ireland and England show a continued decrease despite relaxing lock down. My personal opinion and experience show that people have had enough of the Drakefords aimless path out of lock down and are doing their own thing. For instance I'm down the marina, the area outside the river house is packed. If pubs were allowed to open beer gardens the crowds would be far more dispersed. As things stand at the moment we don't know when that will happen, so everyone is just taking advantage of the one place they can have a pint.

Rubbish. Powys doesn’t have any intensive care beds, but residents in Powys access medical services across Wales including intensive care. Typical hospitals including Morriston, Merthyr and Abergavenny plus and a raft of other places including Bronglais. Residents nearthe border with England do access services in Shrewsbury and Hereford.

A lot of people who died due to covid would likely have died due to pre existing conditions. You would think the excess death average over the next 3 to 6 months will be down compared to previous years based on historical trend data.

Drakeford has been outstanding? Omg I’ve seen it all.....5 mile rule is just fantastic in a city 12 miles wide and in remote areas where supermarkets are more than that. The clown is about to destroy the tourism industry in west wales toapparently protect lives? He like queues does MD, there will be huge ones all over wales at job centres very soon. I’m sure all the people he’s phucked off in Westminster will be bending over to help the welsh out....not. If you thought you had it bad before, you ain’t seen nothing yet folks.

A look at full figures makes really interesting reading. Today there were no new cases in Powys, 2 in Swansea Bay and Hywel Dda and 3 in Aneurin Bevan area yet there will 11 new cases in Cardiff and 26 in Cwmtaf area. Why!. Also why 25 new cases in North Wales. This highlights the need to stay local. The sooner the figures in Cardiff and RCT come down the sooner the lockdown can be removed and we will all be able to move freely. These 3 areas are always higher than the others so something is working here that isnt working there.

There’s been about 10 in Cardiff for about two weeks now, in a county population of around 600,000 it’s not very many is it? The r is almost under 7, it was 0.65 in Germany when restrictions were lifted. Drakeford seems intent on pi$$ing off Westminster, maybe he thinks people will blame the Tories when thousands end up in the dole next year, not his Labour Party? Feel sorry for folks I know in west wales, desperate for some tourism but he’s intent in killing them off. Plenty of other places around Europe open it seems.

Because having a haircut would risk both the Hairdresser or the customer getting infected due to how close they are. Nobody knows who is infected. This is standard practice throughout the UK not just Wales. As far as people travelling outside the local area this is to prevent the spread. It is far more likely someone in Cardiff and RCT is infected than Swansea at the moment so allowing somebody to travel to Swansea could increase the risk of it spreading. The figures prove that the lockdown and local is working and if everybody follows it the figures will continually reduce to next to nothing
