My grandparents were involved in World War II but the notion I should hold any ill will towards Germany and the German people of today is crazy in my mind. Germany doesn’t hate us either. Atrocities on all sides. The blitz, Dresden, Pearl Harbor, Hiroshima, yet we’re pretty much all friends now. World War II was undoubtedly the lowest point of human history but we’ve moved on and made amends in many ways.
Native American history is also one of massive bloodshed, the various tribes were knocking the shit out of each other for centuries before the Europeans arrived. The Sioux would have been the invaders at one point. No doubt they would have stolen the land off some other tribe who probably considered the land sacred before. History is far more complicated than the simplistic “America bad, Britain bad” narrative that the hard left are pushing. |
It’s not a valid comparison as that war didn’t end with Germany occupying ‘our’ land or us occupying ‘theirs’.
A better comparison would be the countries ceded to the Soviets as a result of the War, where the struggle to turf them out didn’t cease until they were turfed out. Or if Israel, granted lands in perpetuity in 1948, had seen Jerusalem taken back due to the discovery of natural resources only for the Germans to erect a statue of great German leaders on the site of the Temple Mount. | | | |

Oh wow, hope the treatment is successful! College Station is a place I detest as an Aggie-hating Longhorn college football fan, but it's a good place for health care.
I just think it's hilarious a ridiculously transparent when the mainstream media frames it as an awesome moment at a monument to four great Presidents when a Democratic Socialist visits Mount Rushmore; but then frames it as a monument to two slave owners on "stolen" (conquered) land (i.e., anywhere in North America) when Trump visits.
Like this was a secret that was magically discovered in the last 4 years.
As with everything else the Left spazzes out about, this has nothing to do with their phony assed social justice, and everything to do with Trump Derangement Syndrome.

You know I was amazed to see a statue of Robert E. Lee in New Orleans a few years ago. On a column. I think it has gone now. To an extent that makes me sad, but I wonder how the large African American population felt about it? Lee himself did not own slaves. |

He was a massive historical figure but he was also a traitor to the US. How many countries have statues of traitors on display?
Also Lee didn't want any monuments erected to commemorate the Civil War as he felt it would hinder hinder the country in moving on. Pretty prescient of him. Yes they did, and if they built a memorial on a Celtic sacred site I’d also call that ‘controversial’. I haven’t said Rushmore should be pulled down. I think the controversy should be understood, and accepted, and that a memorial to the Sioux Nation should stand there (as they are now building) with education about the wrongs that were done to the Sioux Nation at the site and distributed to all visitors (which I believe they are also now doing more than before).
