| Class. 10:39 - Nov 18 with 754 views | onehunglow | I see banter described as working class and wonder as to just what the living bejesus defines this. Language, content or is it job driven. I don't see why ,for example, swearing is seen as banter, and insulting using profanities is seen as somehow the domain for "working class" people. I can recall from my youth years of watching "working class" people avoid bad language ,and blasphemy in everyday conversation. Ban Language /banter is universal now and as prevalent in Eton as it is in Penlan Comp. Plenty of people from the most humble backgrounds are now highly literate ,educated and able to exchange views in a manner that would be appropriate in any social milieu. Class and our obsession with it has and always will kill this country and it's progress. Let's make this a great discussion. It's sensitive enough. [Post edited 18 Nov 2020 10:39]

| Class. on 10:49 - Nov 18 with 511 views | Catullus | The so called "upper classes" can swear with the best of us. Didn't a study say that more intelligent people swore most often? I do swear quite a bit but rarely directly at people, it's often an "Oh FFS" directed at myself! Sometimes at other drivers. I rarely swear in front of my wife or son, or other family members, it's the way I was brought up. When with friends the language is usually very blue. I don't think class comes into it. It is now a social norm regardless of class. Personally I thinjk the old class structure is dying out to be replaced by the have's, the have nots and the never will haves. In other words money will define the structure. | |

Do they not have schools in Penlan anymore then. You get my drift though, dontcha? Thanks taxman for the reply.A good one too. Nobody ahs ever defined "class" .It is purely subjective and a term,in my eyes,to pigeon hole people whether they be "toff" or "worker"

These days the toffs are those who don't need benefits but still claim what they can get away with. The workers are those who need benefits and because of need they are lazy scroungers, feckless wastrels who just need to work harder.

| Class. on 11:29 - Nov 18 with 490 views | onehunglow | If class is about wealth ,where does that place multi millionaire ,mansion living Wayne Rooney. If class about schooling and family, plenty of old public schools destroyed by drugs and living in the gutter of life | |

| Class. on 11:29 - Nov 18 with 490 views | Boundy | I'm no shrinking violet but these days I cringe at the language used around kids and in general in the public domain swearing has now become the accepted norm , To converse without throwing in the F or c word is beyond the wit of most nowadays. Standards of common courtesy have dropped remarkable so which is a pity imo | |

Technical middle class This is a small, distinctive and prosperous new class group. According to the Great British Class Survey results, lots of people in this group: Mix socially with people similar to themselves Work in research, science and technical fields Enjoy emerging culture such as going to the gym and using social media

I think that category was only introduced about 10 years ago.
| Class. on 11:43 - Nov 18 with 466 views | onehunglow | I kinda proven my idea that class is garbage and we should all refuse to be stereotyped. An expensive school,a high paid job does not a great human being make nor does lack of wealth or bad school make a dullard ,just one where aspiration is held back by circumstance. Phrases that screws me? "Im working class and proud of it".Ive never been able to handle it. "It makes me physically sick" | |

Not necessarily so as many solititors/accountant,doctors have humble roots ,ie workng class to many. I have a niece who is a GP that went to State school and doesn't have the attitude associated with the middle classes/posh. Our good Professor had himself the most humble roots and schooling and I d suggest he' d be mortified to be refered to a middle class.

It doesn't matter about beginnings, social class is fluid. It's not the only indicator, but it's the most reliable

No poison at all, show me where? You’ve always posted to niggle and annoy, but don’t like it when it’s directed back at you. Even though my post in this thread was to highlight that class isn’t seen as a problem or issue anymore, apart from in your view. And as for telling me where to post 😂
