| Shut down Sport. 18:31 - Jan 8 with 1898 views | onehunglow | Clearly measures are not working. There is no sign of any common sense whatsoever. New grotesque contracts are being negotiated at a time when millions face unemployment and the most difficult times ever. It is obscene. Footballers are simply acting ,as many see them to be,terminally greedy and shallow.Ive never know so many people recoiling from sport at this moment . No wonder when players see in the New Year getting ratarsed with players from other clubs totally ignoring any rules or common sense. Time to call a halt to this ,I think. Plenty are dying as I write this, others seeing loved ones suffer and all the while businesses and shops are vanishing before our eyes. Yet we see such horrendous stupidity fuelling this virus. Stay safe folks | |

We are talking about footballers simply avoiding the closest contact when there is no need. COVID is passed by close contact. I lost a great friend who was fit, healthy and relatively young. It is rank stupidity to think young ,fit, healthy sportspeople can avoid this virus and be killed by it.

I don't disagree with anything you've said at all there. But.... - Is there any evidence that the sports industry is contributing to the spread a lot? With sport ongoing as i alluded to in another post, with bubbles, regular testing& something as simple as having something to occupy their time, it could be argued them actively being in the sport could actually be safer overall and reduces spread amongst the general populace. Of course there's absolutely nothing to suggest that footballers that have been breaking lockdown rules will suddenly start obeying them if sport was stopped. - Throughout this whole pandemic ive only heard of two players being ill enough to be hospitalised so within the game, they don't seem to be increasing any burden. (although i appreciate the risks). - It is a very infectious virus, but the majority of teams are still managing to play, implying to me that protocols & procedures they are employing are pretty good. There is room for improvement however. - It is keeping a lot of people in work helping the economy. - its keeping millions entertained. It could easily be argued that the mental health benefits provided outweigh any risk or burden it imposes upon the population or the nhs.

Great post. As soon as they try and put silly rules in though, I’d rather it stopped completely. Watford flew to Swansea last week, all on same plane, stayed at the Vale together, bussed to ground together. How many positive tests did they post this week does anyone know?

Is there a need to fly.? Watford to Swansea is about 3 hours by coach.

Factor in. Coach to Luton airport, coach from Cardiff airport to the Vale, coach from the Vale to the Liberty and this is assuming they drove back. Absolute madness.

Thanks Chief. Not really as regards general public but most certainly within football. That said,if one player lives in a block of apartments, however luxurious, and touche things like door handles or other surface touched by others, then yes,he could spread it. Better to be safer than sorry. Exceptional times

Im beginning to think that might be an idea . 1300 people died yesterday.Think on that Blaine. We ,as a species, have to seriously, examine ourselves and assess what is important. The good times, for now, have all gone and we're bound for moving on.

Yeah I’m up for that Richy. In my opinion we will see a big drop in cases due to the closing down of the main point of spread anyway, schools. [Post edited 9 Jan 2021 11:43]

There is something fundamentally wrong with general British psyche' Don't wear masks, don't follow the rules, this is what happens. Why was the M1 gridlocked on Thursday ? Lockdown ? I don't think so. Playing at it, it's a joke.

People have more time than ever but are clueless about how to maximise their lives. Technology ,in many ways, has killed us Families mainly have their tea/dinner infront of telly whilst kid are glued to their phones. 57 Channels and nothing on |
I'm with you on that. One of my great joys before covid was walking the dog and just enjoying nature. When covid hit that actually increased. There was no traffic noise, no contrails and we could hear the birds singing all day. Then recently, I dug out my camera and my telefoto lens and started looking for something intersting to capture. Maybe I should have done that last March, maybe I should have being capturing life in lockdown. Sport is important, it's an outlet, entertainment and a chance to socialise and exercise but it's not so important that we can't go without for a few months, again. We have hundreds of channels and yes, nothing on. We've binge watched NCIS from the beginning. Then I mentioned to my wife that I might make better use of technology and take up an OU course. I've considered a few things, History, Archeology, Geography. The point being, if sport does shut down again and is off for a fair while, how many might find better things to do? Will it be the beginning of the end for obscene salaries? How many clubs might go bust, across the whole of sport? But in the end, I agree, we should close down sport because too many cannot follow the rules or will not accept small changes so the show can go on.

Agree with everything apart from the last paragraph. If the sport is stopped are sports stars going to suddenly start obeying covid rules? Will the newspapers etc suddenly stop reporting on breaches?

Good post, the long one not this one quoted but I just wanted to ask, would you be happy to see close up celebrations stopped if itmeans football will continue? I agree with much of what you said but cases in football are rising and I can't see any harm in risk management, it's not like clamping down on celebrations significantly changes the game. As somebody else said, what message does it send out when your tv is full of young men jumping all over each other, hugging, sometimes kissing? No wonder other young people don't get it. Right, now we're off for a family walk with the pooch, before the football starts. A socially distanced walk where we stay at least 1o feet from others, take the lomg way around if we need to, you, do the things that don't come naturally for the sake of our health AND others.

Talk of shutting them down when they're quite capable of continuing under a strict testing regime is just silly. |
Hear! Hear! They’ve closed my health club and swimming pool. My golf course is apparently highly infectious, so they’ve closed that as well. Sport on tv is all that’s keeping me sane. Get the vaccinations done and let’s lift these lockdowns. They’ll never be forgiven if the vaccination campaign ends up as another test-and-trace fiasco.

Golf courses closing is idiotic. Limit group numbers for sure. Stopping people playing a naturally socially distant outdoors game? It's crazy.

Given how much more easily viruses are transmitted indoors, looking to restrict people's opportunities to go outdoors seems to me to be utterly barmy. By all means close pubs, gyms, hairdressers and restaurants. Make supermarkets install capacity restrictions and one way systems. That all makes sense. Stopping people driving five miles to a beach for a walk when they're unlikely to come within two metres of anyone? Or just going for a round of Golf? F*cking stupid. [Post edited 9 Jan 2021 20:00]

Every piece of equipment should ideally be disinfected after every use. If we wise up,things could return to something like sanity but as we have massive deaths right now,no measure is extreme .
