| Swansea City regroup and go again - Looking at new players to come in on 14:16 - Jan 6 with 1715 views | ReslovenSwan1 | You get the feeling the club has made siginificant progress on the recruitment front in the lst two seasons. Coinciding with having no money. Its a pity Scott was not on the books when the £50m came in for Gylfi and Llorente. | |

MGW hasn't played much for months and we did ok. All we need is a striker and another midfielder. Dhanda has looked quite good recently, it's not the blow it might have been.

Yes I know but he had so much to his game. - he was head and shoulders the best midfield player in the championship for me. But as one door closes hopefully others should open . We’re a very good side and any top end PL club would do far worse than send their players here. Or maybe there’s a jewel abroad we’re looking at. Fingers crossed. However if our midfield 3 stay fit (a big if with all the games so close together) than they can get us to the top 2 if they carry on the way they’ve been playing.

Cooper doesn't like playing with a ten though which means Dhanda is going to be struggling while Cooper is here, can't see him playing in a flat 3. MGW was the perfect player for what Cooper was trying to achieve, we need a replacement imo.

We can forget abroad. We are extremely unlikely to be able to afford anyone with sufficient points to be allowed to play over here. Those markets are closed to us post-Brexit in our current financial position.

There are a few ways round it, but I would imagine Swansea have their targets and Although we have taken a few hits with MGW and Obefami I’m pretty confident even the Americans won’t want to lose the momentum gained this season.

I thought that a player needed to get points based on the league they play in, the number of games they’ve played etc. I can’t see us buying players from the top divisions in Europe and there are not many players in their lower divisions that qualify. Brazil and Argentina are potential sources but I would expect prices to jump up for their players once teams come a knocking. A better market maybe be youngsters released by the bigger clubs; I can envisage category 1 academies casting envious glances at players from lower academies as they will not be able to stock up on overseas youngsters in the way they have been. I was talking to a few people this afternoon, clubs wanting young players who don’t fit the criteria will start to bring in potential ‘scholars’ much the same as schools do in foreign exchange situations as an example. They can offer education alongside physical education with short term permits with the club sponsoring the ‘student’ for work. Very astute if it’s something that comes off.

Careful you have made the age-old mistake of thinking certain people have the sense to understand what you say 😉

Maybe fewer foreign players coming in will see British players getting more match time and will prove to be good for our national sides? If Keith is close with his "scholars" comment we will still be able to find promising young players. Why do people always have to look at the more negative aspects? A bit of positive thinking can go a long way. Does anybody think Coops is sitting there moaning about what he can't do or concentrating on what he can do?

Excellent point. Just as MGW will now hopefully get his chance at Wolves, clearly a top quality home grown player brushed aside for some import. We have so much young talent that gets wasted. Somebody mentioned Brexit ? This is yet another example of a brexit benefit, how on earth can't some people see this ? - esp the ones that have been banging on about our academy players not getting a chance.

These changes brought on from brexit might be a benefit for the Welsh national team, but i doubt it'll be of benefit to the Swans (we don't spend too much compared to our direct competitors) Over the years we've signed players from Europe where you get more value for money (at bargain prices, utilising our contacts) the modern equivalent of which we couldn't sign now. Vorm, De Guzman, Chico, Michu, Pablo, Bodde, Van Der Hoorn, Gomis, Rangel. Brexit definitely won't help us in the very short term - ie this window where these changes have essentially closed off a huge pool of potential players to us.

It's an interesting point, and I think fluidity is the key. Dhanda fits a fluid style and is clever but fundamentally lacks proper bite and is often bullied out of games. He has been ragdolled by the better Championship teams and looked lost today against a L2 midfield. We rarely play a flat 3 across the middle. Today Fulton stepped into Grimes' role and struggled to control. Grimes would have been looking to ping balls out to Garrick to exploit his pace. It shows how vulnerable we are and desperately need options for key positions, CM being one of the key in addition to a MGW replacement. Kerouac had a thread of all possible options, targets for key positions in the last transfer window. Would be great to have something similar now....... Priorities: - Striker - CM backup for Grimes(had hoped it was J Evans) - Ayew backup - MGW replacement - Roberts backup

Cooper has said he also wants a keeper because Benda is long term injured.
