Not a lot in the article to be honest, Winter and Birch were the driving force behind the downgrade according to owners.
Anyhow, what is the lack of success down to this year? Younger side playing against older and more experienced players or just sheer quality. Looks to be a year where Cardiff have a bit more quality in their ranks which hasn't been the case for a while.

The logic of playing 17 year olds in u23 games and 15 year olds in u18 is lost on me. Playing 15 year olds in u23 games seems odd. No point talking about CAt 1. Swasnea cannot even find enough players for Cat 2. it seems.
Cameron Evans Ollie Cooper and until his injury Cullen are not playing competetive football jut training and the odd FA cup cameo. The 20-21 age group goes to the first team squad or on loan with Jack Evans and Joe Lewis released. The academy have skipped one age class.

Definitely short on bodies. Previous fixture cancelled because we couldn't fulfil it. Even with injuries and potential covid issues it's not great to be caught this short.
Ben Lloyd is one I've been aware of for a while. There's high hopes for that u16s class. Ideally you're always going to have players capable of playing up a level (or two) and shouldn't hold them back but you want some competition for those places as well. Haven't heard anything about who the trialists are.
Jack Evans made his debut with Newport on Tuesday, played an hour in another poor loss for them. They're struggling to play any football on their cabbage patch since our Brandon and Scott Twine left. Joe Lewis playing every minute with Torquay from what I've seen. Good for the lads to get their senior careers moving forward. |  | | |

I hope "virtually all scholars" is an exaggeration, there is usually a period towards the end of each season where those not being taken on for another season are quietly moved aside but we've struggled to fulfil fixtures as it is. | | | |

Unlike in previous seasons, there were no youngsters brought into the U23's last summer and the decision to split the training because of the pandemic saw young pros like Cam Evans, Dan Williams and Ollie Cooper remaining in Fairwood rather than mix with the schoolboys and scholars training at Landore.
It appears that the new academy manager has acquired a bit more of a budget than Nigel Rees to an extent that a number of positions inside the academy have been advertised, Academy, Lead Sports Scientist and Academy Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach plus two Kit Assistants. | | | |
