First taking your last paragraph. The poverty figure you refer to has gone on long before the Assembly was ever in place. There has been problems for years particularly in valleys areas and this goes back to the 60s and beyond. As far as education much of it is down to ambition and also parental support. However the education also supports many very well. Gower College Swansea has 11 patients accepted by Oxbridge for 2019 and hundreds in other top universities as well. Eleven students from Gower College Swansea have been offered a place to study at Oxford or Cambridge University in 2019. Despite your efforts to put down our education Bishop Gore seemed to do well How has Bishop Gore done? The school say that 14 students achieved at least ten of the top A* or A grades, 25 achieved at least 7 of these top grades and 39 pupils achieved five or more A* or A grades across a range of subjects. Speaking during her visit to King Henry VIII School in Abergavenny, Education Minister Kirsty Williams said: Today we have seen an improvement in overall performance across Wales. I would like to congratulate all learners receiving their results today and to thank the teachers who have worked so hard to deliver these new qualifications. Last year we saw a dramatic increase of 50% in entries for science GCSEs. I am pleased to see that entries and results are continuing on the upward trend, with more pupils gaining A*-C and more achieving the very top grades in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. This increase in learners being entered means more young people are accessing qualifications that lead to greater opportunities for further science study and careers, paving the way for the future scientists of Wales.

First paragraph, it's always the excuse, it happened before us...well what have Labour done to fix it in over 20 years? I've said this to you before, when the tories took over from LAbour, 3 years in they were getting grief for not fixing stuff, from Labour so why isn't 20 years enogh? Education so now it's the kids have no ambition and the parents are crap....11 patients accepted you say? You probably missed all the debates about schools being dumbed down. The new curriculum will take that further, I've experienced it when my son was at a pioneer school. It's a disaster waiting to happen. Bishop Gore is one school in Swansea, how did all kids across Swansea do? I tell you what, we can either take the Senedds word for it or we can wait for the PISA results, I'll do the latter and judge accordingly.

here is the info you asked for Students across Swansea are celebrating their GCSE results. A total of 97.5% of GCSE examination entries in Swansea were passed (grades A* to G), and tops the Welsh pass rate for 2019 of 97.2%. | poll on WG on 17:13 - Mar 1 by Highjack | It was only twenty odd years ago labour were getting 75% of the vote in Neath. Peter Hain had a majority of around 25000 at one point. That majority is down to around 5000 at the last election. Still a good majority but it’s a seat that would be amongst the last to fall in a labour collapse. It shows a trend that reflects a lot of the country. If people are drifting away from labour in Neath of all places then alarm bells should be ringing in party HQ. |

He was the original orange man. Trump had nothing on him. You could tell it wasn’t a real tan because Neath is covered in perma drizzle and smog from port Talbot. But then again you only saw him anywhere near Neath during election time just like his successor.

Here is more detail in addition to that provided. 200 at a Russell Group university ie 24 of the top universities in the UK and 1000 going to university in 1 year alone and this is fairly typical. In my sons primary class 6 went to top 20 ranked UK universities and from his closest friends in secondary all went to Russell Group universities. 2 to sit Maths, 1 Chemistry and 1 Geophyics and that was not a top ranked school. The education system is nowhere near as poor as some make out. There is a disparity across Wales and locally some schools do much better largely due to having better catchment areas. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/ [Post edited 1 Mar 2021 20:10]

Ah yes the poster whose managed to take the art of guessing up another level. No jealousy from me far from it , personally I couldn't think of anything worse than messing up someone's life because of a "clerical" error , then having the affront to demand re payment because of some pasty faced office clerk with an index linked pension couldn't do their all so taxing (pun intended) job properly in the first place.
