| Stoke boss fuming 23:59 - Mar 3 with 3598 views | KeithHaynes | I have to say, isn’t it about time after all the dodgy referee decisions over the years at Stoke 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Furious Stoke manager Michael O'Neill felt his side had been robbed of a point after a controversial injury-time penalty handed Swansea a 2-1 win at the Bet365 Stadium. Kyle Naughton went down in the box and referee David Webb adjudged that he had been tripped by Jack Clarke in the 94th minute, and Andre Ayew slotted the winner with virtually the last kick of the game. It boosted the Swan's automatic promotion hopes, after Connor Roberts had cancelled out Nick Powell's opener, but dented Stoke's fading play-off chances. O'Neill said: "It was an incorrect call in my opinion. It looked as though he tripped over his own leg, only he knows if he dived, but the assistant on that side didn't give it. It was down to the referee. "It's very frustrating because we are in an environment where there are no fans and teams are claiming for everything and putting officials under pressure and they need to be stronger. "If 20,000 fans are in the stadium tonight I can't see him giving that. I've watched it back three times and I can't see how the referee could say he is 100% certain. "It's disappointing. We hit the post and bar and the least we deserved was a point." An error from Marc Guehi gifted Stoke a sixth-minute lead when his pass was cut out by Steven Fletcher and Powell thumped his shot past the helpless Freddie Woodman. The visitors were level after 19 minutes when Ryan Manning's cross was volleyed home by Roberts from eight yards. Tommy Smith's vicious drive thumped a post just before the half-hour mark, while Manning was inches wide at the other end. With 49 minutes gone Fletcher hit the bar from close range and James Chester ballooned the loose ball over, while Angus Gunn made a great save to deny Roberts his second as Swans pushed towards the end. But the Welsh side's first win in Stoke in 20 years was confirmed with the late drama, as Ayew made it 11 for the campaign. Swansea manager Steve Cooper said: "I'll be honest I haven't seen it back on the TV but I thought it was a penalty at the time. It certainly looked a penalty to me. "You are hoping a winner will come and you never give up, you keep going and that's what happened. "We got our chance with the penalty at the end, we were passing our way up the pitch and we had our wide centre-backs getting in the box to try to create. We were just keeping going and doing what we do and in the end it paid off with the last kick of the game." | |

Nobody wants to win by cheating and who knows for sure Naughton "took a dive" ItS all about the ref he makes the decision. As has been said we have suffered from "worse" dodgy decisions in the past ....even during this season...so thats the way it goes . I am sure we have all over thae past years at some point have wished we were sometimes more "streetwise" in "Playing " the ref....maybe Naughton was maybe he wasnt, but at the end of the day the ref saw it as a pen ...and therefore it was!

I do not wish to make this personal as Im sure you'r e a nice chap, far nicer than me. I'm offered my comments and stand by every word. Your not accepting that bothers me not at all.I dont if every single punter post as you do. However,YOU know what you saw.You cannot bring yourself to say what many/all REALLY feel. It is about honesty not forum kock waving. Game management good. Well, pretty obvious really Lowe was shot.He is shot full stop as is obvious. He shouldn't be starting. So not really great game management. but you carry on

I wonder what his reaction would have been had it happened in our box and that Clarke who cant stay on his feet and fallen over with Kyle behind him? I am not so sure he would have been happy with Clark being booked for simulation and us getting a free kick!!!

The point is vetchy it was "dubious" at best and we got the benefit. As I say,I can understand you and others "believing" it WAS a penalty. We have been royally hafted many times but thi season,Steve has had the calls and ,as Napolean aid,and I paraphrase, -Bring me lucky generals

Clarke made the mistake of following Naughton too closely. His presence behind Naughton smoothered his runing style. The legs of Naughton would likely come into to contact with Clarkes legs as Clarke was shadowing Naughton too closely. It could be by luck that there was no contact but the referee could not know this. Clark s inepereince was shown up and he was stitched up like a kipper. It happens. If Calek did that with a swansea shirt on I would criticise him not Naughton.

Fair play, that prose is beautiful.Im not sure whether to agree with it or not. It's the work of an artisan. My point is;we know it was "debatable" .It's the hypocrisy of it all I detest. All players now cheat. They are clearly coached as such.Ayew s first thought is to go to ground.Indisputable. He is a wily ol bugger for sure and a terrific pro but honest he aint.

It not being penalty and us cheating aren’t the same thing. Naughton didn’t cheat. You may say you don’t think it was a penalty and still have credibility, I can see that view... but claiming we cheated is ridiculous and quite transparent as to the reason behind doing so. It’s amazing that 24 hours after such an important win people are trying to make out we cheated. Who needs opposition fans anyway? The are some happily taking up their place in their absence. Just weird. [Post edited 4 Mar 2021 17:38]

Nope,we are just passing time before we are called into the great beyond. If you go down looking to deceive the ref it is cheating. Only lovely Kyle would know. Anyway, life is weird .

Well anyone who can see what happened will know, not just Kyle. Not to mention he’s our longest serving player and have seen him enough times to know his on field character. There was a tangle of legs, that’s not deceiving anybody. If you don’t think it’s a pen then have a go at the ref. I’m just pointing out that it’s strange you seem to complain when we are given a penalty when their defender clips our players legs in the box... but say almost zero (maybe zero) on 2 penalties we should have had a few weeks back one on Ayew and then on Morris. Two fouls in 10 seconds in the box, neither given. Did you say Cooper was “unlucky” to not win by more back then? You seem to be more annoyed when we benefit from what you deem a bad ref decision, that when we fall foul of them. No pun intended.

Naughton was clever, got his body in front of clarke and then contact is inevitable if you just take a tiny bit off your running speed as the man behind will no doubt make contact every time.

What YOU seem is not right though. You kid yourself. Naughton is experienced and will have had years of conning, kidding referees. If you cannot see that then we are done. It is gamesmanship leading to cheating. Football is rife with cheating which is obvious looking at the groteque spectacle of them going down when NO contact is made in order to get a foul. How many time do we see a player go down, then when no given a decision ,get straight back up and RUN back to the play. AA 's forte is to look aghast with both arms out horizontal . Celebrations for goals are planned .Little is spontaneous. It aint just football. Rugby has it everywhere ,as does cricket .

This, as soon as he got wrong side of Naughton he had to let him get cross in and rely on other defenders to clear, they tangled legs while Naughton was about to get to byline. Deffo Pen. [Post edited 5 Mar 2021 9:55]

Naughton was given an arm tug as the Stokie crossed behind him and his foot was clipped ... at speed, knackered at the end of a game and showing a little desperation to get to the ball keeping your balance is very difficult. It was a foul, a foul in the penalty area is a penalty. Why no crucifixion of Joe Allen's character for deliberately handling in the penalty area and getting away with? And, no extended thread calling Gunn a cheating thug for kneeing Lowe in the ribs and belting him across the head? I think we know why.

I agree, except for the Joe Allen handball was actually in the D, just outside the box, so it wouldn't have been a penalty anyway.
