| Nurses recommended 1% pay rise on 16:21 - Mar 5 by Slugster664 | Of course he said that, it'll make him popular. So, out of the money the WG lot receive from Westminster, where do you think this "in excess of 1%" will come from? My thinking is Council tax raises, police cuts...who knows? Or, perhaps Guessing Gethin has found another tree... |
Any politician that pops up and says he will give nurses and I hope doctor a biiger raise will be loved. How it is paid for of course another matter. We could give them a bigger raise. How much/ Anyone? If you come up with a figure, justify it and cost it. Tories could offer them 20% and our labour chums would still complain. They have to. If Labour were in power and offered 5%,Tories would say it aint enough. Jim Callaghan's labour government didnt offer enough either 20 % not enough then.

| Nurses recommended 1% pay rise on 12:33 - Mar 5 by YrAlarch | As someone who wants the Police to have the right to strike OHL, does that not please you? |
Police voted against it around six years ago. Or so you would be led to believe. The funny thing is that they didn’t, they voted 52% in favour and 48% against strike action, but then the rule of more than 55% of the federation must vote was referred to. I Think it was around 54% who voted. So the vote was binned. That rule makes most polls defunct. Couldn’t make it up.

| Nurses recommended 1% pay rise on 18:54 - Mar 5 with 631 views | 1983 | Some NHS staff do deserve to be paid a lot more and should have well before covid BUT this pandemic is taking no prisoners in more ways than one, as soon as this all kicked off we all knew it would take years / decades to recover financially. I work in the public sector and have worked as per normal the last 12 months all the way through and was told a few weeks ago we are having a 2 year pay freeze, my missus lost her job of 14 years a job she loved and is now picking up work here and there, so we are all suffering this is going to go on for a long time yet just be grateful you still have a job because when this furlough ends we will see another wave of unemployment. And lets have it right all politicians are pr1cks no matter what flag they are waving | |

Good and brave post. What make me sick is the less well off and the likes of nurses just queuing up to be loved by those politicians who use them for their own good. They also know the job they are signing up too and know the dangers, hours and pitfalls .They are or should be dedicated to nursing no matter what.

| Nurses recommended 1% pay rise on 14:24 - Mar 5 by krunchykarrot | 12 1/2 % increase I think not. I think certain people in the NHS have performed above and beyond and deserve all the accolades for a fantastic performance. But lets put this into perspective, they do get pay increases as they work through the bands eg average ICU pay is over 50K. The private sector will be decimated with people losing more than a pay rise, to put in perspective how much do you think the lab Techs who work on vaccines earn? This rose tinted view of our NHS in Wales is pathetic, we have had hospitals in special measures for eons and waiting lists getting longer and dont even mention OAP nursing home care and the minimim wage carers looking after them. |
Average ICU pay is over £50k, not for a nurse is nowhere near that. The hands on stuff is msinly done by the healthcare assistants. I am not saying they deserve a 12.5% increase, but it should be more than the 1% they’ve been offered. I know people working in hospitals caring for patients with Covid, they’d never seen death before but now they’ve seen plenty. It’s had a profound affect on them. Money won’t address the issues and make up for what they’ve had to contend with, but it will go some way to showing them their efforts have been appreciated.

Works both ways though, doesn’t it? You can’t say nurses/police/school staff know what they signed up for and should just get on with it then at the same time complain about public service centrally set pay/holidays/pensions. Not aimed at you OHL - just piggybacking on your post. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I am. They deserve 12.5%. Cancel Trident to pay for it. Germany, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Holland do not have weapons like Trident. They spend their money on positive things ... like nurses ... Johnson out.

Good point Perch. And probably why Johnson has done it. I still think that the teachers have Johnson at their mercy. They should shut the schools until the nurses get the full 12.5 per cent. Workers of the world unite ..... ✊🾠

Why would a nurses 12.5% salary increase lead to 12.5% increase to an individual tax bill?

Because I take from his post, he was asking would he be happy to pay the extra personal tax, so the nurses would get the increase

Doesn’t need be that amount though. The 1% increase for and average nurse would be £3.50 a week. Or 90 minutes of their hospital parking if you think about it that way.

A 1% pay rise for the NHS staff would cost an additional £500m, which in the grand scheme of things is peanuts and less than 2 weeks of the £350m windfall Boris promised. It’s also a considerably smaller number than the track and trace debacle.

It's the healthcare assistant that put themselves at most risk because of more contact with the patients and they get just above minimum wage. They also have to make do with inferior PPE as do the nurses. The docs get the best Masks etc while the nursing and care assistants have to make do with the surgical masks, all for shit money.

Increase VAT to 30% on killer junk foods

You’re not wrong there. I was told a story about a doctor being asked to examine a patient in a ward. The nurse offered him a surgical mask which is what they’ve been using through the pandemic, the doctor told the nurse there was no way he was going to see the patient in a surgical mask and returned a short while later in full PPE and proper mask - none f which the nurses have had access to. The people who do the dong definitely need a decent pay rise.
