His Sister has just been awarded a £300,000 NHS contract.
Luckily for Matthew, he owns 15% of the company.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Great post gwyn but to clarify before the naysayers jump in, a firefighter start on 24k, 31k is pay for a fully qualified firefighter.

That's poor money for FF IMO, as is 28k for Police, 18k for a nurse, is nothing short of scandalous.

I’d argue that in these unique times nurses should be singled out for reward due to the fact they’re so poorly paid.

A quick search (and it was quick so hopefully it’s accurate) shows the difference in first year pay post training:

Nurses - £18,005
Teachers - £25,714 (this includes an 5.5% pre-planned increase at bottom of the scale in 2020)
Police - £28,527
Fire Service - £31,767

As an aside, nursing is the only profession listed that falls way short of the required earnings for immigration post Brexit. It may be that when free movement ending kicks in, they government may have to push pay up to fill posts. It could be useful to push pay up quickly to stop current staff leaving. 2 birds with one stone and all that.

I'm not saying they don't deserve a good raise just that the government (Westminster or the Senedd) will say they don't have the money to give.

Your point about immigration,I reckon there's more chance they'll change the immigration rules first.

I think it's disgusting that such important jobs don't get a lot more, they should all START at 31k.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Wouldn’t surprise me at all Catt.

I reckon it could be a political winner, though. Raising the profile/value of the nursing profession while filling an employment gap.

I know someone in the police and someone who recently tried to join, a brand new cop in training without a degree can start on as low as £18,912. There is flexibility between Forces to adjust this, so here in Wales where living expenses are lower the Forces start new recruits on the lowest point that they can, in places like the South East of England they pay more.

After basic training and 2 or 3 years it goes up it goes up, but it ain’t great money. Person I know who tried to join is a tidy lad who has a degree in law!

Top line constables are on £40k per year which can will include shifts and weekend work, wife’s uncle pays his bricklayers more than that for regular hours and throws in private healthcare.

The government found £37 billion for Dido Harding’s track and trace system that a cross party committee found “ no measurable evidence of the scheme slowing the progress of the pandemic”.

That would pay for a 74% increase in pay across the entire NHS.

I tried to look up the first year post training rates on national pay spines.

It seems I’ve overlooked a shed load of variables.

Unfortunately, those variables (invariably!) push wages down.
