It does if they want to remain in power .

| Is Drakeford getting this right ? on 09:03 - Apr 25 by felixstowe_jack | The people of Wales are at long last are realising that it is labour that is holding back Wales future as a prosperous part of the UK. |
Many are not thinking like that. They cannot and will not vote any other way. Ive never read anyone on here saying why they can only vote for Labour,no matter what.

Thinking about about it neither have I , when ever the the NHS waiting lists for example are mentioned the any response is usually with what about Westminster etc with no defence made of the actions or should I say non actions of those presiding over us in cardiff , its as if the failings of central government is forensically studied and the sins of the senydd are ignored .

Ive alway seen Labour as a protest vote. Whether it be nuclear energy,Police (favourite),defence spending, taxes,it matters not what the Tories do . I have pretty much contempt for Boris but I see Surak as a good choice should he crawl away. I never disclose how I vote. People on here can guess all they want but a vote is a secret ballot,so if you are a voter in Cwmdare or Cydweli or Caerphilly, you really could vote Conservative if you want,as you can for the Flying Brick candidate.

Its the wrong question. The real question is perhaps ...why welsh people today will never ever vote Tory ? For me it was the treatment of the miners by Margaret Thatcher. Thats it. Plenty of other good reasons of course like stopping the nationalisation of our NHS, and now Johnsons rampant corruption. I am voting Plaid. The uk cant help Cymru after Brexit.

The question you should ask is why did scargill bring the miners out on strike without a vote? He was clearly under orders from his Russian masters to bring down an elected democratic government. The miners were helpless victims in his ideological battle. Thankfully the rule of law and democracy won . Some of the Welsh people have always blamed wrong person but now nearly everyone thinks the environment is better of without the poluting burning of coal . The recovery from the ugly scars left by mining have been transformed into green open spaces.

You can't rule out the tories because of an ex PM. It's illogical and hate filled. Rule them out because Bojo is deceitful, devious and untrustworthy by all means. The current tory party has very few people left who were around during Thatchers time, if any, I can't think of one. The miners were mugged by Scargill who played right into Thatchers hands. Thry were both complicit. When you vote it should be because of policies and thise policies need to be deliverable. That is the big problem. For me neither the Tories nor Plaid are offering anything they can deliver. Labour have been a failure. I listened to the Libdem woman on the Welsh politics show and she sounded quite reasonable but the libdems have no chance. Price is on the tv now, he wants to do two jobs, First Minister and the Economy Minister too. How can he do both jobs? Is he going to claim both wages? He's already washing his hands of the controversy over the new Velindre Cancer centre. He's talking money now, investment in health care. What he's saying is he won't have to raise taxes but unless Westminster gives us more money his promises mean nothing. He thinks he can deliver can what he's promising within the 5 year term under the current budgets yet the health proposals alone are at 250 miilion extra, and that's dubious, if he says it costs that much we can be certain it'll cost more.

Care to expand on that? What cruelty? Who was the enemy within? To some people it was Scargill himself because he still had his home, his big car and his income when miners were suffering.

“We had to fight the enemy without in the Falklands. We always have to be aware of the enemy within, which is much more difficult to fight and more dangerous to liberty.” "The enemy within." That’s how Margaret Thatcher and her government saw the organised working class in 1980s Britain. It was an enemy not because it invaded territory, but because it threatened the power and wealth of the rich, and the rich were who Margaret Thatcher lived to serve. Happy to help.

But she wasn't calling ordinary people the enemy within, she was calling Labour and the miners that. She felt they were an attack on democracy, she felt the miners were full of militants and as dangerous to the UK as Galtieri. It was controversial and divisive, and wrong in my opinion but still, it was 36 years ago. You can't vote today based on 36 years back. The irony here is you often accuse others of being stuck in the past yet here you are, absolutely bogged down in 1984 and sinking fast. Thatcher is dead, the miners strikes are in the past. You need to catch up with the present.

Why not? The Conservatives today stand for the same values as they did back then

The workers were never the enemy it was the trade union leaders who were able to call out the workers without their agreement Margaret Thatcher actual gave the workers the democratic right to hold a democratic ballot before they went on strike. [Post edited 26 Apr 2021 18:17]

I suspect many Welsh people would disappoint you. Personally not all my Welsh values match up with Plaid or Welsh Labour, some do but then some match up with the tories too. There isn't a party that fully represents my views because they are all too busy being either left or right. I need something in the middle but the libdems aint it either.

Definitely vindictive. Misguided depends on where you want to go I guess. She was a true blue tory and bahaved like one. Much as I disagree with her (in hindsight because I was 13 in 1980) she had morals, she stuck to what she believed in. Wherever you look today, politicians are easily bought, their morals and ethics are transferable, flexible, those that they have.

She stuck to her guns too much. She became a virtual dictator. She alienated much of her cabinet and friends that they got rid of here eventually. One of the best days ever, seeing her leave no10 with a tear in her eyes. Whatever emotions she felt wasn't comparable to the misery she handed out to many of the working classes.
