Ironically Prof so did I though I remember nothing of it. Also ironically I wasn't allowed to do Welsh because I was in a higher stream, the thick kids did Welsh.....ohhh, controversial 
Then after a year the school stopped doing Latin but those of us in the latin class were too far behind. They put me in the Welsh class anyway but I learnt nothing there either, the teacher didn't bother with me. I used to sleep! | |

I dropped Welsh for German.No contest really. We had holidays in Bavaria and Bodensee.
I did Latin for 4 years and it gives a great base for many southern European languages | |

What still remains is the contempt many Afrikaans speakers have for English. Part of the problems that still haunt the country.

What does the Welsh government spend on opera then?
Not everybody wants to have Welsh forced on them. It should be a choice in a country where English is the first language.
They don't force Latin on kids in Italy do they?
Personally I would rather they spend that money on healthcare or if in education, something that will actually benefit Welsh kids when they leave Wales. My son doesn't want to learne Welsh but Spanish interests him. |

He tells me he hates Welsh lessons. He'll be like the thousands of other school kids who are forced to learn Welsh but will never use it as a first language and will forget it as they grow older. It won't even be the second language for most of them.
It doesn't get used at home. it doesn't get used at most workplaces. There's probably been more Polish spoken in Swansea than Welsh over the last 20 years.
