So what was the point in the vax then 01:34 - Jun 12 with 6534 viewsJack123

3 weeks to flatten the curve they said, here we are many months on, and now it's a crank with projected doom, I'm so angry with the bas*rds doing this to people..

It's never going to end, let's face it. take the vax all, plus keep your masks on, and all social distance..

I called this 2020 December.

libera nos a malo

Operative word "believed", could you point out when one of those so called experts got their predictions right please?

Unfortunately the experts have got an awful lot right.

They are, of course, talking about a range of scenarios. Many people who think they are wrong cherry pick one scenario to suit their argument.

Are we brainwashed as Ron says or simply realistic . What can do what about Ron and his ilk. Why are people concerned ,worried and angry about keeping night clubs shut.

150,000 dead and we are worried about getting coked up and giving it large in town centers everywhere. We are nuts and not in a good way.

Currently? You do realise we are talking about the developing situation, about the inevitable new variants. Those who don't get the vaccine, maybe because they are younger and healthy or maybe because they have fallen for anti cax nonsense, they don't know how these new variants will pan out. No one does yet.

We have pretty much got the situation under control but you'd seem to advocate just throwing caution to the wind.

Read the WOL link again, of those who get the new variant, the vast majority who die are amongst the not vaccinated.

Did you even bother to read the Daily Mail link I posted?
45% of those that died had 1 or more Vaccinations from a Hospitalised population half the size of the Non vaccinated cases.
So the mortality rate was higher in those vaccinated and in hospital.

The problem with predictions is they are very hard especially the ones for the future.

Where did I say to "throw caution to the wind"?
The current situation does not justify continuing a Lockdown in the middle of the summer. Did I say say to stop distancing, masks and being careful etc, no I didn't.
Would anybody in their right mind suggest the same thing for the Flu with mortality rates of single numbers per day?

Realistic unfortunately. The more transmissible variants have changed everything, especially the Delta variant as it also makes people more likely to end up in hospital.

I suppose the worrying thing is it could get even worse. Lets hope it doesn't, but this virus seems to lull us in to a false sense of security and then kicks us in the nuts.

I understand why people think it's a conspiracy. I wish it was. Unfortunately it is just really crap.

I really don't get the problem with a 4 week extension, although affected businesses should be getting more support. Life isn't too bad at the moment I'd love to be able to fly off to the med with the family but I'll settle for Pembrokeshire and Folly Farm.

It's a bit more important we get these vaccines rolled out.

In Wales the mortality rate is lowest amongst those with both vaccinations. You'd end lockdown with a highly transmissible new variant around that's spreading quickly, that's hardly cautious!

Yet again, it's not purely about the death rates but also the effects on the NHS>

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Again currently 2% of beds are occupied by COVID patients.
Are you going to advocate lockdown continuing when another new variant comes along?
Will you advocate lockdown when the winter Flu arrives?
Or should we go for 100% vaccination and lockdown for that as well?
Have you actually looked at where we were when lockdown was introduced compared to where we are now?
ie 68,000 cases a day and 1250 deaths per day.

The experts are using double talk, in one breath they say lockdown to prevent an increase in deaths and in the next breath they say we are going to have to learn to live with COVID.

We are going to have to learn with covid. It's not going anywhere.

But at the moment we are dealing with a more deadly and transmissible variant that is also significantly resistant to a single vaccine dose.

There are still vulnerable people who haven't been fully vaccinated. We need to prevent a large surge until a far larger proportion of the population have been vaccinated. Just an extra 4 weeks.

Preventing an increase and living with covid aren't mutually exclusive as long as people are vaccinated.

It wont as long as we have people believing those keeping distance and wearing masks are brainwashed.
We are screwed

Lockdown rules have been relaxed we have many of the freedoms back. We can eat out, attend events, go to a pub.

Of course we could hrow caution to the wind, end up back with the same kind of bad numbers and have to put up with another full llockdown, I'd rather avoid that, wouldn't you?

It was only because lockdown was relaxed I finally got my hip replacement done. Under a full lockdown I'd still be waiting and my general health would continue to decline, instad now I'm on the path torecovery and apparently the job offer I got a few months back is still there. Don't keep saying "lockdonw" as if we are all still coope up at home, under curfew. Better to take our time now and get it right then turn the last 16 months into a waste of time.
In a couple of weeks, if the weather is good, I'll have some mates around for a poker night, we'll order a takeaway, watch the football. It'll be a good catch up having not seen them since February 2020.
Why can't you try and get on with what we can do instead of always moaning about what we can't?
The day when all restrictions end is coming, we are getting there. There will be some new behaviours that we will have to maintain, no doubt, like maybe mask wearing in shops but most of us can live with that. Covid isn't going away we just have to findthe best way to live with it.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Good to hear the Op has eventually happened and gone well.

Let's hope that poker game can happen sooner rather than later.
