The game everyone wants Wales to win who is either from Wales or supports Wales, except those who don’t want Wales to win, which is the vast majority of the people in the ground on Wednesday. This is the first time Turkey have played Wales in the euros, or since 1998 whichever comes first which is currently 1997 as the day of the game isn’t here yet. The real odd thing is that last year was 2020, but the year got cancelled, so even though it’s 2021 now it’s actually 2020. This should mean most people will know the result and bet their houses on it accordingly.
Wales v Turkey Weds 16th June 2021 Olympic Stadium, Baku Azerbaijan Kick off 5pm
Match Officials to be appointed.
Turkey v Wales Head to Head Wales have won three of the six meetings between the two sides, although the last victory was a 1-0 win in Ankara in 1981. The most recent fixture took place in qualifying for the 1998 World Cup, a thrilling encounter that ended 6-4 in favour of the Turks.
Turkey made their European Championship finals debut in 1996, and this will be their fifth Euro in total. The Turks qualified for Euro 2020 by finishing second in Group H behind France. They picked up four of their 23 points from the current World Champions, winning 2-0 at home and drawing 1-1 in Paris. Şenol Güneş's side has a fierce defensive record, having conceded just three goals in the entire qualifying campaign and only once in their last six games.
Key Player: Hakan Calhanoglu Hakan Calhanoglu is a German-born midfielder of Turkish ancestry (just like Mesut Ozil) except Calhanoglu has expressed his commitment to the Turkey. Calhanoglu currently plies his trade in Serie A with AC Milan, where his dangerous knuckleball free-kick has seen him compared with Cristiano Ronaldo.
Turkey facts Yeah, you knew it was coming. The cranberry sauce of the euros, the cold meat in the sandwich, piccalilli, branston and salad. These are Turkey facts, so let’s gobble them all up here.
1. Like the football team, Turkeys change colours. 2. They also have better eyesight than humans 3. Only male Turkeys gobble, which doesn’t resonate that well with me. 4. Americans eat 46 million Turkeys every November 5. This is mental, male Turkeys droppings are shaped like the letter J.
It’s also odd to note that the city of Istanbul in in two continents. Yes, the country of Turkey where Santa Claus lives has two sides to its culture. Isn’t that wonderful. However, visitors please not that the cost of kebabs are the same on both sides of town, so don’t fret.
A kebab yesterday
More Turk like revelations coming soon.

We've been in the cauldron before and one of theirs end up on a stretcher and then an operating table, our player was banned for four and half years, some claim the Welsh punch was harder than a pro boxers, the authorities have it in for us as not long before they banned us from playing within 200 miles of Cardiff after they said we rioted (when we thought we were cheated) and had to play home games in a foreign country because of the ban. Come on Wales do it for Byron.

The ban was 100 miles from Cardiff and the game against Scotland should have been played at Wrexham which the players wanted but the FAW decided to play at Anfield for more money. We didn’t have to play in a foreign country, it was the choice of the FAW.

Morning Joe.# Woke up in not a bad mood but that post ha set me back. It' arguably the mot angry, upset and viscerally damaged Ive ever been after a game. I was working in West Derby Rd at that time and the flow of Scottish flags and people gave a lie to the fact it was supposed to be a home game.
They polluted the City for days after.
Simply horrendous and those not around at that time really have no idea of the utter pain of Jordan etc.

Perhaps it was km because I remember the Welsh arguing we have to play in the middle of the Irish sea, the authorities did change things after banning Wales totally from international competition to allowing Wales to play a certain distance outside Cardiff but the story then was it put us in a foreign country, was Wrexham just inside the exclusion zone and Liverpool just outside ? (Wrexham inside 200km, Liverpool outside 200km) it was a long time ago and the goalposts changed a few times by the authorities after them initially wanting to ban Wales totally and Wales appealling., if we eventually could have played at the Racecourse but took the game to Anfield for the gate money that was a dreadful mistake by the FAW, as Wales would have been favourites to win at home, we were the better team on the balance of play anyway before being robbed.

It’s well documented Tramp, Dai Davies gave an interview a couple of years ago and he was still furious at the decision of the FAW to go for the money. 50,000 at Anfield or 11,000 at the Racecourse was a no brainier for them but the players were furious because we had a great record at Wrexham and most of the 11,000 would have been Welsh.

Was the racecourse having work done on it, in those days of terraces I would have thought it would have held up to 3 times that many.

Davies said: “As soon as the Welsh FA decided to take the game to Anfield we knew we’d lost home advantage.
“We were quite distraught and it was a case of an employer making a decision and the last people they thought about were the people involved. It was bloody stupid and they’re so daft they’d probably do it again.

This game would have had the potential for crowd trouble if it was the 1980s, in the same scenario, game in Baku, Welsh feeling hard done by by the draw, drinking all day long, heat, Byron red card, important game in the finals, it would have been X rated back then, today we don't have any enforcers in the team, just nice neat ball players, I hope we don't allow them to bully us, if they fly into a few tackles the crowd will be up for it right behind them, we will need to stand up the the Turks. There again perhaps they play nice neat football themselves these days. It's going to be a big ask for Wales, I'm looking at Bale or Ramsey to step up and show their class when we need it and hopefully one of the younger players like James, a Brooks or Wilson to make themselves a hero.

How else would you have done it? Not a good result for Wales, if the Russians do win
The traditional way, one host nation only.
Wales are likely to get knocked out, I looked at the groups and betting before a ball was kicked and although it's next to impossible to say, it looked like the 3rd place teams from Wales and Scotlands group would be knocked out as there appeared to be weaker 4th seeded teams in the other groups that the 3rd placed teams would beat and get 3pts. Wales could get a very creditable draw against Switzerland, draw in Baku against Turkey, lose by 1 or 2 goals in Rome against one of the tournament favourites and almost certainly get knocked out. If that came to pass as a Wales supporter of many years standing I would say to qualify and then achieve those results would be very creditable indeed, I thought Wales would lose all 3 games before a ball was kicked and not score a goal in the process, so we've already done better than I expected.
PS I just shows how unfair and pathetic 3 points for a win is, worse thing to happen to football, you can have a champions League group with one team winning 2 drawing 3 and losing only 1 game, finishing behind a team winning 3 and losing 3, crazy.

No Changes the lying toad.
Indeed there was talk of changes, not a bad result by Wales against a team ranked 13th in the World but Wales did not play great and there was talk of playing 3 at the back and 2 wing backs, possibly no Kieffer but Wilson as a false #9. Strong talk of Neco replacing Roberts but no changes, if Wales are chasing the game I think they have to look at Neco, Brooks and Wilson, quick turnaround, heat, young legs replacing older legs etc but it does seem that Page thinks this starting eleven is his strongest eleven.

No Changes the lying toad.
Disappointed with that as we need the win & not enough energy/legs or width in that side for me - that said hope Page is right & the boys can pull off the 3 points.
