| Should New Zealand be allowed to have a Trans Man take part in the olympics. on 21:36 - Jun 22 by controversial_jack | If society accepts trans gender people then it has to accept it in all it's aspects. Is it unfair on women, yes of course it is, but there are bigger , stronger faster men that I couldn't compete with. |
Sport classification is based on sex not gender. It’s why they have always sex tested women competitors. If the two are different, and I believe they are, and trans people believe they are as well, then changing one does not change the other.

| Should New Zealand be allowed to have a Trans Man take part in the olympics. on 22:41 - Jun 22 by Dr_Parnassus | Society should of course accept trans gender people, but that doesn’t mean accepting them as biological women or men. Do you really think if The Rock decided he was a woman tomorrow and wanted to fight professionally he should be allowed to fight against women? Comparing yourself to elite male athletes isn’t the issue. Elite men will always be faster and stronger than elite women. The fastest person on the planet will never be a woman, ever. What about age for example? Do you think someone should be able to identify as whatever age they want despite biological fact? If someone who was 50 wanted to identify as a 10 year old, they can do so and society should understand that people do have these identity issues. But it doesn’t mean we should be allowing them to compete in the U-11’s. |
I don't support self identity

| Should New Zealand be allowed to have a Trans Man take part in the olympics. on 00:26 - Jun 22 by Dr_Parnassus | Of course not, not in the division opposite to their biological sex anyway. They are as welcome as anyone else to compete within their biological division. If there ever was a symbol of how bonkers the world is today then this subject is it. There was a normal build Caucasian guy going around the University campuses in America and was asking “Should I be able to identify as a 9 foot, Chinese female?”. The overwhelming answer was “yes”. There is such a fear to offend in this generation, or indeed, to not be seen as offensive, that in order not to be ostracised from polite society and their peers, they happily go with the absurd. It’s so sad to see. The female sprinter Allyson Felix who was more dominant and successful in her discipline on the women’s side, than Usain Bolt was on the men’s... Her lifetime best for the 400m is 49.26 seconds. Based on 2018 data, nearly 300 high school boys in the US alone could beat it. John McEnroe got himself in some bother too, when he said “Serena Williams is the greatest female tennis player of all time”. Then some millennial presenter said “why did you stipulate “female” why couldn’t you just say greatest tennis player”... he replied with the fact that if Serena was competing on the men’s side then she wouldn’t even be ranked in the top 200. From someone who knows the sport very well, he didn’t go far enough. She wouldn’t even be ranked in the top 1000. In fact Karsten Braasch who was ranked outside the top 200 in the men’s side played a set against both Williams sisters in the same night. He beat Serena 6-1 and Venus 6-2, was barely competitive. Then you have the female football players. There was a big debate over here regarding equal pay for the National sides despite massive gaps in interest, money generated and of course talent levels. The Australian women’s team lost 7-0 to Newcastle Jets U-15 boys team. The UFC also allowed biological male Fallon Fox to compete in the women’s division after transitioning to a woman. He smashed everyone and even fractured the poor woman’s skull, until they stepped in and reversed the decision to allow it. Someone could have been killed by this nonsense. The examples are endless. Women’s sport is in a good place right now, it’s gaining some good traction. And despite some idiots like Meghan Rapinoe and others who completely ruin it for others by not realising that female sport has a long way to go and demanding things they have not earned, it’s growing nicely. Allowing biological men to compete with them will kill it in its tracks. It is a rather amusing conflict though because the mad society that is too afraid to offend anyone that isn’t a straight white male, is now going to have to choose between two of its favourite quests. Grab the popcorn is my advice. [Post edited 22 Jun 2021 0:41]

Another very good thought provoking post very well laid out. Bound to upset some, but not much to argue with. As Dwight said I feel for female athletes who have trained and sacrificed their whole life for their moment at the Olympics only to be unfairly disadvantaged.
| Should New Zealand be allowed to have a Trans Man take part in the olympics. on 19:46 - Jun 23 with 1268 views | Dr_Winston | It's not a black or white issue. It's going to have to be considered on a case by case basis. In this particular instance, no way should someone who has been male, both biologically and gender assignation, be allowed to compete in a sport so obviously dependent upon biology as weightlifting. | |

Same with snooker, Rhianne Evans competes with the men. Actually makes me want her to win every time she plays just to shake things up a bit.

It’s irrelevant what the result is. Unless people genuinely don’t think there is any biological difference between women and men. Which is ludicrous. The only thing it will show is that this crop of women were lucky that a stronger man didn’t decide to identify as a woman and compete.

It is relevant in that people will make the (incorrect) argument that she didn’t have an advantage. Of course she did but it would have been easier to demonstrate if she won.

Not one to celebrate failure but that’s the best thing that could have happened for the women involved in the competition. Still means a woman missed out on what would no doubt have been a dream to compete at the Olympics due to Hubbard qualifying instead. But I’m sure common sense will be in place before the next Olympics.

i'm playing devils advocate. Of course I don't think it's morally right. Men are far stronger than women

It could be argued it is the worst thing for the wider argument. I agree with the final point - I think that it will go back to how it has been for several Olympics before now - transgender athletes will only be able to compete if certain criteria are met. Laurel Hubbard did not meet those criteria. On a more positive note - absolutely brilliant from the British woman winning silver, Emily Campbell. First GB weightlifting medal of any kind since 1984.

You really couldn't make it up, could you. Not only is He not a woman He failed to win against actual women. So He gets the vote. The sports women of New Zealand must be absolutely gutted. [Post edited 2 Oct 2021 11:24]
