That’s a good point but I think he is more of a ball player than Smith as an example.

One didn't have to be an expert to have judge Hourihane? Sometimes ,what you see is what you see.

I remember a lot of people disliking him from the start … they saw the transfer fees and loan costs and forgot he was 19 and struggling away from home. TBF he made it clear he wasn't happy and he didn't play well. There again few did under Clement. Perhaps if he'd been given fan support and some love it would have been different.

He definitely was poor here but he has proved he's got the talent. The circumstances weren't right for him here is all, I think. Onnthe wages thing, will Brentford have been paying higher wages than us? It was an exceptional circumstance these last 18 months but surely Brentford haven't been paying very high wages? Their average crowd 2 years back was less than 10k. They are quite well run, I don;t see them paying big wages but could be wrong. Marcondes could be more affordable than some seem to think. All I could find online says he was on 10k per week.

Their wage bill in the 19/20 season was about £26m, while their standard income is about £16m. They massively overspend and pay the bills with player sales profits, they're "well-run" in the sense that their recruitment and player development has been good enough to keep producing assets of enough value. Ownership debts have been growing since before they were promoted to the Championship, probably around £100m now although a chunk of that is the new stadium, and the PL windfall might pay for all (unless they do a Villa and keep spending).

As long as their R&D is good then, they should be OK? That is always a gamble, the conveyor belt can stop rolling at any time, very suddenly, or a very good signing can pick up a long term injury and become an expensive albatross around your neck with the need to fill that position too. Like I say, it's always a gamble, unless you are the really big clubs who can afford to roll those dice.
