| Swans fans in Reading “ Matt Grimes” 23:28 - Aug 10 with 3461 views | KeithHaynes | The Jack Army shouted "We want you to stay" on numerous occasions towards their skipper. And Martin delivered a brilliant response when asked if he heard the chants aimed at the central midfielder. “I joined in," he said. "Anyone who sits in this chair and says, a player of that calibre, if they want him to leave then they'd be crazy. He really suits what we're doing, mentally with his character, with his attitude and his courage on the ball. Technically, he could play in any team. "So nothing's changed really with Grimesy. We want to keep him. We'll have to see how that pans out." | |

| Swans fans in Reading “ Matt Grimes” on 17:33 - Aug 11 by Dr_Parnassus | It is up there with theirs, for the reason I gave. Our policy is that if they are good enough then they will get their chance, as is Southampton’s. Most other clubs have a long list of examples of youth products they have let go that go on to bigger and better things. It’s pointless in looking in areas I have not addressed to say why it’s not the same. I have given the area it’s the same and that is simply the policy that if they are good enough then they play. That is proven by the lack of players we have let go that have shown we were wrong to. This conversation is regarding you making the point that we don’t give youth a chance, no other area of our youth policy has been discussed. So the comparison with Southampton is solely in that policy that we do. If you have an issue with the amount we produce then that’s another debate altogether. What I am saying is that what talent we do have, that is worthy of playing, they play. That’s as clear as day. Norrington-Davies Is the only example of the last 15 years isn’t he? I can’t think of anyone who has shown themselves worthy of playing regular top half Championship football. Can you? |
To be accurate, this conversation is regarding a point you assumed I was making about the club when I pointed out jack247 hadn't included Williams on his personal list of options for the coming season. If it's solely about anything, why not that? Youth development can be a chicken and egg situation. Sometimes young players make the grade in part because they're given the right opportunities at the right time, and others that don't get them fall away. To suggest that no player we've sidelined has gone on to bigger and better things equals Swansea City are always right is disingenuous. Particularly when you consider that almost all staff involved in the signing, developing, promoting and selling of Dan James no longer work for the club (a couple of physios and the kitmen?). That's over a period of 7 years, and you want to talk about 15 or 20 as if it's relevant to the here and now.

I didn’t assume anything, I was told that is what your dig was about, you wanting to give academy products more game time instead of loaning superior players from Premier League clubs. It’s not the first time I have seen you allude to that. Jack247 has nothing to do with the club. Ben Williams, if good enough will be given the chance as and when the club feel it right for him. I have no idea what you are talking about regarding your last part. If you want to give me a list of youth products we have ignored that have gone on to bigger and better things showing us to be wrong for doing so then be my guest.

So we are both happy that if our youth players are good enough then they will get their chance then. Perfect.

I would say he's barely better than Byers with the only advantage being he's a couple of years younger than the latter. What games has Dhanda been "excellent"? I mean, like, ever? He's been decent maybe 10-15 times. Rest of the games he's played he's been garbage. Slow, doesn't score goals, weak in the challenge. Honestly, he must be the most over-rated player we've had in years. The love for him is weird IMO.

I think by ‘talented’ or ‘excellent’, people mean creative. I’ve fallen into that trap a few times. He’s not without talent at all, but there are plenty of holes in his game.

Hmm....pretty certain he also played very well against Forest in the FA Cup when we thumped them? But as we both know - the fact that I can recall the odd excellent performance by Dhanda is because it happens so rarely!
