28/1 to get promoted
7/2 to relegated.

Bookies don't rate our chances predicted to finish 17th.

“I saw odds for the first Laudrup season that Swansea were favourite for the drop.”

This is also untrue, you never saw that because it wasn’t the case at any point.

Relegation odds for 2012/13:-

Reading 6/5
Southampton 11/8
Norwich 13/8
…………………………
Wigan 7/4
West Ham 9/4
Swansea 9/4

We got off to a flying start that year beating QPR 5-0 and West Ham 3-0… so you wouldn’t have even seen that at any point during the season either.

This is the an example from the 2015/16 season.

These are American odds so converted into odds people are familiar with, this is 9/1 (or 10.0 in decimal)-

That year we were 11th in the list for relegation, we were thought of in the betting industry as a top 10 side odds wise - they were pretty spot on, we finished 12 - joint on points with 11th placed Everton and 3 points behind Chelsea.

The year prior to this, under Laudrup, we were 9th in the list for the drop. We weren’t even in the conversation for relegation again. Similar to a Leeds or Wolves of the modern day if you like.

I am not a betting man and do not forensically look at the figures like your good self. Good on you.

I think I read the odds in a pre season newspaper supplement and a youtube blog. Very hard to find now. Odd change over time and there are multiple sources and odd given. The odds in May are not the same as the odds in August after signings.

It’s hardly a forensic analysis, it’s just common sense to know we wouldn’t have been favourites for the drop after finishing 12th in our opening season. It helps I’m in the industry and know for a fact that’s the case, these snapshots of history are to prove to you that it’s untrue - I already knew.

The odds would be the same everywhere, the industry doesn’t differ greatly because then you open yourself up to arbitrage betting, you are talking a fraction either side, nothing more (9/4 and 5/2 for example).

They are also relatively constant throughout pre-season unless someone massive is signed, but nobody we signed or lost made any significant difference to our odds. Plus who on earth does a YouTube season preview in May? That doesn’t sound quite right.

We were never favourites to go down or even close to at any point after our first season (and that would have only been for the first few months of that season).

We just weren’t.

It’s getting ridiculous at times.

The amount of sheer mistruths spouted like fact really is becoming intolerable. The shamelessness to stick with it after being shown to be wrong is also starting to go hand in hand, which is even more bemusing.

So anyway back to the OP I think we can all - well most let’s say - that we are more likely, noting the fundamental philosophy/coaching/squad changes over the summer + most of that happened only days before the season started, to be involved in the bottom 6/7 than the top 6/7.

For some that will be difficult to accept & they will wish to turn the clock back & rake over the Cooper era and how that ended for me it’s a call made by Silverstein & his American buddies and was warranted - the change that is not specifically RM - & I look forward positively to the seasons ahead.

Not expecting too much this season - I’d take 18th right now - but hopefully we can build sensibly & sustainably towards a top 6 challenge in the next 2/3 seasons.

It’s very unlikely we will have the same players/manager in 2 or 3 years time. This slow build is a bit of a fallacy really. You will always find yourself in an ever recurring “rebuilding period”.

We did it once because we were able to do it organically from the bottom up. Replicating that when you are already in the Championship is very tough indeed.

Players that we have won’t be patient. If they have a modicum of success then they will leave long before any plan comes to fruition, they have short careers. While you can have a long term ethos, long term plans don’t really exist, like many things, it’s just something said by fans… like the notion of a bidding war as a prime example, that gets mentioned every year and discussed as a possibility - but doesn’t really exist.

We need a long term ethos but short term plans. The latter should never be sacrificed for the former however as the latter can have a damaging impact if it is not suited for the time.

Agree & it’s that, in your words, long term ethos - for me on a financially sustainable basis - that we should be focused on.

Not overly concerned if it’s RM or this particular group of players that achieve success - although that would obviously be quality! - but if/when they move on we maintain that ‘ethos’ with our replacements.

But only if it works of course. If it doesn’t then it will need to be ditched.

If we are in the relegation zone in January for example I fully expect a change in both ethos and short/long term plans.

Indeed,he really has shown us all what a load of made up nonsense he spouts on this one.

And to still not admit he made up the BS that we were odds on for relagtion in 7 seasons shows what a shameless mug he is.
He obviously is unaware that such information is easily accessed on the web.
Dr P has put up the facts up to humiliate him once and for all.
