We are a Championship club...with Championship players. They are a Premier League club...with Premier League players. Premier League players are better than Championship players.
WHAT PART OF THIS....DON'T YOU ALL GET?

Because we lost half our team from last season, have a new management team, have lost our final season of parachute payments.......We are planning on regaining a style in a season that is clearly a transition one, we never got the team in place from the summer window.

Its not rocket science, I don't expect wonders from Martin but I am understanding to the challenges he is up against.... Why do you think Cooper got out of dodge!? The guy who should have stayed and had a contract for this season.

We didn't lose half our team though, we lost 3. Roberts, Lowe and Ayew who were first team starters, the rest weren't good enough anyway.

The first team is good enough, the problem is the performances have dropped off a cliff edge. We have become our own worst enemies. We are gifting the oppo their goals.

Yes Southampton are EPL but so are Newcastle but Cambridge? It was the FA cup and the Saints didn't need our help.

I was happy to see Cooper leave but I can't help but think that if he was still here and had the same backing as Martin, we'd be doing better.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

I am not a doctor but a few players were suffering from cramp if that means anything.

Did any of the Southampton players suffer from cramp? I very much appreciate we have covid in the camp however that was no excuse for that performance. I also think the manager in his aftermatch comments sort of agrees.

Cambridge had a decent brave organised keeper and a plan of playing.

They took it to Newcastle away or not

Great stuff. They deserved it

From last year?
We lost Woodman, Roberts, Guehi, Lowe, Ayew... Could even argue with Hourihane from since he signed in Jan.

That's 5/6 players lost from last season, half a team. Any team who loses so many first team players are going to arguably struggle in the new season.

Would Cooper do better if he was still here!? That's a good question and I couldn't disagree with what you say but ultimately he didn't fancy it taking all things into consideration..... Did he back himself to take play off finalist losers who have lost half a team and a wad of parachute payments into the new season or did he jump off the top of the wave? Ultimately he had nothing to lose taking as some say over at basket case Forest.

Some people loved Martin, some hated him, people wanted Cooper to stay and others wanted him gone....cerrain posters are in different camps and others are using the situation to hit others with a stick.
Myself personally, I understand the job at hand this season Wether Cooper stayed or not but ultimately he squirmed out which is something that should be ignored.

Martin has the gig, deserves the patience and understanding all things taken on board.... If he succeeds or not is the million dollar question but at this stage it is far too early to be picking holes in things as I say all things considered.

Guehi is a massive miss from last year, I know he was only on loan but he's way better than any of our current defenders & hasn't been replaced.

Don't disagree with most of your post but what is the real issue? Is it the manager, the players or a bit of both?

For example, from his comments in the press Martin wants us to move the ball quicker, as I think everyone on this forum wants us to do, but it isn't happening. I suspect that he thought we had the basis of a team to play the type of football he wants to play and has found out that we haven't. Which brings some of our recent recruitment into focus.

We are not going to be able to get the players in to play the way Martin wants in this window. Looks like he has to put some of his thoughts on hold and play a style that takes into account the limitations of some of our players with the addition of a loan at the back.

It has to be down to the manager.
He is employed to bring results and a new style, but, if the style takes time and doesn't suit these players then be pragmatic and play a way that does. There's no point in trying to teach 33/34 year old players a system that will take them 18 months to figure out, if they ever do.
Play a system that is a blend of what works for the players and where you are trying to get to. Do it over time whilst getting rests.
He had an X year project at MK Don's then left. No manager hangs around long enough to worry about creating the perfect team for their system

So far
9 clean sheets in 22 games
Cooper's first season (with a more settled squad and a pre-season) 7
We have fallen down to Martin playing defenders out of position and not bringing in a replacement for Grimes or at least relieving him of the captaincy.

A very fair assessment. I liked the look of Downes last night with that extra responsibility. He’s got a big future ahead of him.

Each time I go to Bedd - au........................
