With Wolf virtually sorted and possibly a Man City player coming in as well.

Is this a sensible option for the club now.

Yes we are not completely out of the Play off picture but it's a long shot at best.

Will need to rebuild again in the summer, personally I think we need to start building a team now and stop chucking money we can't afford down the drain.

Why Make Martin look good with no tangible gain for the club.
Because without a shadow of doubt first chance he gets he will be off.

We need to build for the long term not short.
And if we cant afford to buy our own players now should be saving the cash for the summer.

Martin has a problem. The club have given him 12 young players they like (19-22 years) to develop. He has added Downes.

5 are in the squad to use Cabango, Brandon Cooper, Joseph. Obafemi, Downes

6 are on loan. Garrick, Cullen, Willams D, Webb, Ollie Cooper, Whittaker.

3 are around the u23 Cameron Evans McFadyan Rushesha with Abdullai knocking on the door.

Loans give other in house young player development time to get up to speed in theory. The likes of Whittaker Garrick and Cullen need big seasons. Garrick and Cooper O should be challenging for first team spots next season or sold.

The OP probably not, especially without the likelihood of permanently signing at the end.

How much is the loan fee and wages? Would it better looking at longer term signings in a season like this where we are deeply entrenched in mid table?

Problem is, he can’t win. If he doesn’t get in quality and we don’t win, people will call him a fraud and for him to be sacked, if he gets loans, there’ll be criticism re the future. It may be that even if loans come in who play the football we want, others will learn from them and the system will move forward. The more players we get used to playing the way we want, the easier it’ll be to develop others.

We’re not going to be able to afford the number of permanent players we want in the system in one window, it’s a slow, gradual process. Get players in who can play the system and want to be here.

We’ve got an £8 million player on our hands now. Has to be a good bet ?

Good thread. Up until 2nd half against Hudds I was convinced we were on the lookout for high quality loans to secure survival, shoring up the defence.

IF we can get a Darling at a fair price (well worth the investment), then a couple of Wolfie-esque gems in the final third / LWB could really see us kick on.

Our spine would be secured, our model would gain credibility and it gives us / Martin then the platform and more time to blood our young guns - learning and developing from the marquee loanees.

Cullen has had plenty of chances he is not Championship standard.
Garrick again I am doubtful but he has more chance than Cullen.

Whittaker is a good player and not had a fair crack off Cooper or Martin.
He even scored a hatrick in the League Cup and still didn't get a chance.

Know very little about Ollie Cooper though but would love to see him do well for us.

Yea I see both sides of it, but I'm leaning towards not bothering and either developing what we've got.

How much of a fee are we paying? 500k with wages? For a guy we'll have for 6 months.

As opposed to O Reilly for example who we could probably sign for a 1.7mill, have for 2 or 3 years then sell on at a healthy profit?

Issue there is we don't have 1.7M but enough to cover the Wolf loan. I would rather our scouting network looked for younger players who are available within our price range who had the potential to kick on.
I think a permanent gamble is a far better option than a 6 month loan. If this Wolf loan is for 18months ala Guehi then it chances the whole mindset.

Had Whittaker been treated with respect he would have already been a partner to the excellent Piroe.
Loans leave leaving us flat.
Then we start again.

Let's build

There may not be a buy option, but maybe an extended loan option

Yes sorry I was just using O Reilly as an example, although if we're getting Mcatee as well, how far away would we be from O Reilly? Wouldn't take too much more.

But yes in our position and Wolf as an attacking midfielder, I'd rather look for a younger player on a permanent for the same price.

These players exist, look at Manning for example.
