The Russian position seems to be Crimea should never have been given away in the past, Donbas majority ethnic Russian-Russian speakers (accusations of them being mistreated), Ukraine democratically elected leader/Government overthrown by Western backed agitators, Neo Nazis now in place who want Ukraine in NATO, Russia don't want NATO in Ukraine when they think some of Ukraine is or should belong to Russia anyway, Russia surrounded by NATO missiles on their doorstep as it is without the possibility of Ukraine having NATO missiles there, deep mistrust of the West, fear of Western aggression, US/UK illegal war in Iraq etc as they see it, West doing what it likes and not recognising International law when Russia have been up until now but felt they had to act.
It nowhere near legitimises a full scale invasion and war as far as I'm concerned, considering international law nobody said anything about Crimea, no great fuss as if to say they had a case, the Donbas might have had a case for independence but all this invading bona fide Ukraine is morally and legally indefensible as far as I'm concerned. |
