| Future sales and investment in squad 16:12 - Apr 19 with 2264 views | shandyjack | Hypothetically, if we were to sell Downes and Piroe, how mcuh would you believe each player would go for and how much of the incoming money do you think we'd reinvest. Personally i could see Piroe £20m and Downes £10m That's £30m just from those 2, based then off the spending last 2 windows i'd expect Martin to get between £6-8m to bolster the squad. | |

| Future sales and investment in squad on 17:38 - Apr 20 by Whiterockin | Define reasonable fee and expected fee. |
A reasonable fee would be one which we can get in a couple of players in who have shown quality in the leagues or divisions they have played in with a good chance of making a step up. An expected fee would be one where we could get a couple of quality players who are proven at this level. My question was more to do with the timing of the sale and if we wait could we get more or even have a chance of keeping him if he sees ambition from the club.

The club obviously have a value in mand and hopefully have plans for a replacement. If the value is not met early on and we can't get the replacement we want then I would say wait. Biggest factor this coming window is the early start to the season. If we held onto Piroe until the last day we could utilise him for 7-8 games before the window closes, there are 5 weekends. With the break for the world cup the autumn fixtures would less than normal. The club has a lot to consider on all deals between now and christmas.

| Future sales and investment in squad on 17:41 - Apr 20 by Dr_Winston | Jenkins' ego started running rampant after his clash with Laudrup and he thought he could do without people who actually knew what they were doing. We basically did all our business via agents or trying to bring back players we'd had before. We should have kept shopping at the bargain end of the market leavened with the occasional bigger fee paid like the summer we brought in Bony. |
Mr Ledbetter was the head of recruitment under Jenkins post Laudrup. He kept a very low profile and is rarely mentioned. There were some huge successes. Shelvey, Gomis, Ayew A and Ayew J Ferndandez was solid and Fabianski. Also Sigurdson of course. In amongst this lot were some howlers. Baston, Tabanou Eder. Swansea were always up against it and recruitment had to be spot on. A 50:50 success rate would not be good enough. Gomis had to work out. Llorente bought some time but when he left the ratio of bad signing to good signing overwhelmed Clement and Carlos had too much to do. Sanches, Mesa, Bony 2. Clucas contributed too little and Abraham was not fully rounded. Fer and Olsen got injured and Ayew A was a solid PL player but not good enough to change the trajectory (scoring 0 goals). Swansea needed to go for the throat at Bournemouth away (on the beach) but did not. The US owners forced out Ledbetter but Potter was also poor with a 100% failure rate with Celina McKay John and Asoro. I do not know if Ledbetter got credit for James, McBurnie and Byers.

If like Dan James the price isn't right wait if he is successful may have to sell him but at a better price or cash in your chips while ahead. Think we really need a couple players in the spine of the team found wanting when teams really have a go at us. Both Barnsley and Reading needed as many points as they could get. At the end of the season madness occurs. No excuse if your good enough though. Last season we lost to Bristol City and Birmingham in the second half of the season who ended up 19th and 20th and we drew with Wycombe who finished 22nd.

| Future sales and investment in squad on 22:06 - Apr 19 by STID2017 | I agree that Piroe should easily be worth £20 million. I don't think Downes is mature enough yet to make the jump to the EPL |
I’m not quite sure people realise just HOW good he is. Scores with both feet with absolute ease and not just a great goal scorer but also a scorer of great goals. He’s had hardly any service and when he dropped to midfield his abilities as a ball player came to the fore. Some outstanding passes to Obafemi for starters but his link play is also excellent. I dare say if we were the sort of team who could regularly put good crosses into the box he’d nod them in. 15-20 million has to be a minimum in my opinion. A chap sat behind me said he thought about 8 million . I laughed and told him he’s obviously not seeing all of his attributes.

As you say he has a range of qualities, doesn't try and force things looks for the best options for the team to score or progress up the field. hope we keep him

I'm sure he is being watched by several scouts and as you say he has many abilities two good feet and he has scored lots of goals this season with his first touch. wouldn't be surprised to see Everton come in with a cheeky bid especially if they get relegated and Richarlison looking to go

Totally agree. Easily the best striker we have had since Bony. I would love to see us with him in the EPL but can't see us being able to resist a good offer for him in the summer.

Resist a good offer in which summer is more to the point, resist this one, maybe get promoted, sell him next season and get a better price or sell him this year and not get promoted? [Post edited 21 Apr 2022 7:48]

| Future sales and investment in squad on 17:36 - Apr 20 by shandyjack | Scary reading when you think about it, 7 years of PL money and we ended up in that situation. Think the problem landed when we started chasing the big players on big money and moving away from what made us so successful. That last season -Clucas, Bony, Ayew were so crazy and nearly killed us |
Clucas shouldn't have been a bad signing, what made it a bad signing was including an up and coming left back in the deal which meant we played Clucas as a left back out of position as we didn't have a suitable replacement for the left back position

I would love to see him stay and I agree with him i think we would get promoted. However I fear the owners will sell if we get a decent offer for him this summer

Difference between reality and fans hopes and expectations. Just hope Piroe shows a level of professionalism and the club treats him right while negotiations are going on
