| Season ticket sales on 17:52 - May 30 by Dr_Parnassus | But you only see these on your phone rIght? So my point is unless you are watching a broadcast of some sort, which counts for a tiny fraction of people. The vast majority walk away from a game with far less certainly about what just happened than those who watched the broadcast in its entirety. So while the game is good for the occasion, if you actually want to know what went on, you can’t beat a multi angles broadcast, which takes me back to my original replies with regards to “I’ve not seen it back yet” etc |
So we can see the highlights well before 3 hours with goals and key events available during the game.

Far more than that, the other half Is also a Swans fan and we don’t fly long haul in economy these days, 24 hours without being able to move is not for me. You are probably looking at $20,000 a trip including expenses. My work schedule and where I fly to largely determines when I can go to watch the Swans. I’ll be in New York either the end of this year or the beginning of next and will request to go via London. So potentially will be able to get to a game there, especially if in and around the London area. But I certainly wouldn’t waste precious family holiday time going out of my way to watch football that is available on my screen that’s for sure and doubly certain I wouldn’t with the likes of Russell Martin using us as his personal vanity project. If that upsets some they will just have to get over it

But not during the game is the point I’m making. I assume you know the FA rules regarding replays of contentious decisions within the ground? So you will be walking away from the ground with less idea of what went on than those watching a broadcast, unless you are doing both at the same with which accounts for less than 0.0001% of attendees I’m sure. Not too sure what is to debate about regarding that.

The goal replays are shown on the big screens. Everything else is available hand held if required during the game including replays. Replays are available halftime in all areas including the big screens. I keep repeating this but you are choosing to ignore it.

I’m not ignoring it at all, you don’t seem to be understanding the discussion. 16,000 people attend a Swans match (if official figures are to be believed). How many go and watch the halftime highlights on the concourse? A tiny fraction. Goal replays you can see, contentious decisions you cannot. Neither can you see replays of certain moves that wouldn’t necessarily be shown again. What you are saying however is those that go to the games and also have access to some sort of broadcast will be able to bypass that. But I am saying those that go to the game and watch any sort of broadcast be it live or a replay service is slim to none. Meaning those that go to the game, will generally leave knowing what happened far less accurately than those that watched the broadcast in it’s entirety. Your point seems to suggest that if you are that way inclined and spend your time on your phone and watching the TVs, you can maybe get to know what happened a little more. Which is great but it doesn’t really address the point i’m making. No idea what you are disputing, I can only assume you are now doing so just to argue a point?

Plus like you, many of us have friends and family watching the identical broadcast he is seeing, so we get the definitive information on contentious issues, scores, etc. It is up to us all how we choose to interpret it of course

You mean the streaming service I get absolutely free with work? I understand what it is. But what point does that make in relation to anything I’ve just said. My point is exactly that you see more via a broadcast… you have come back citing that people can watch a broadcast too. Well yes, that’s my point, because a broadcast will give you a far better idea of what’s just gone on. Hence why you came back from Forest and disputed the factual data I presented, yet completely ignored any follow up after I showed you were wrong.

I have addressed that point. So you are then relying on what other people are telling you happened as opposed to you knowing yourself. I watched the broadcast for example, and told you exactly how many shots we had in the first half of the Forest game. You disagreed. If going to the game meant you knew what happened and friends and family filled you in via text… then how on earth did you get that wrong?

What am I wrong about? You cannot see contentious decisions inside the ground. It’s against FA rules. You can indeed watch some kind of broadcast but that only makes a tiny fraction of the crowd meaning those that attend generally have less idea what went on over those that watched the broadcast. This isn’t even slightly contentious.

Not sure what you are on about ? In Forest I purely watched the game and relied on limited replays on the big screen ( which won't show contentious issues ). So my view was that of a fan at the game. The point made above to you by the other poster is that he has the streaming service on his phone, plus access to half time highlights to make informed judgement calls on what has happened before he leaves the ground. As he stated, you were ignoring that ?

Then you are proving my point. You represent probably 99.9% of match attendees. I am not ignoring anything, my point wasn’t regarding him. My point was regarding “broadcasts”. The fact he relies on broadcasts to have an accurate view backs up exactly what I’m saying. The fact you didn’t have access to that along with most of the other crowd (or did but not that way inclined) suggests those that attend “generally” have less idea of what went on than those that watched the broadcast in its entirety. Which bit are you disagreeing with there? Be specific.

The concourse areas around the four stands are full during half time and full time with many watching the contentious issues. Plus the many in hospitality? Hardly a tiny fraction?

There is very limited replays in the big screens, contentious decisions aren’t allowed to be shown. Also important plays that aren’t necessarily match defining may not be shown. As you said, they are limited. I’m not saying you will never see a replay of anything if you attend a match. I’m saying those that watch a broadcast will generally have more idea of what went on than those that attended… until they can catch up with some kind of broadcast. For most that is several hours - even 24 hours later, some won’t even bother at all. There is a tiny fraction that will be that way inclined and spend their time on their phone and watching the TVs too, but it accounts for a negligible number which again only plays into the point that broadcasts are key for accuracy.

Full crowded round the TVs watching the highlights? Come on now STID. Why didn’t you watch the highlights at Forest half time and know how many chances we had then? Surely all 2000 or whatever it was made a beeline for the nearest TV right? I don’t think I’ve ever done that in all my years watching football and sport in general, I don’t know anyone else that does either. Let’s not forget that only accounts for the first half too. To my knowledge there isn’t a full match highlight package on the concourse and if there is, I don’t recall ever seeing a single person stay and watch it. Come on now STID let’s not turn this into another silly debate. [Post edited 30 May 2022 18:45]

You state FA rules regarding contentious decisions, these can easily be overcome, as is the rule of not being able to watch 3pm KO's on a Saturday live on your TV in the Uk. You said that while in the ground I would be unable to watch replays and asked me to provide information of the sources. I provided the information, do you accept you were wrong. You said that highlights in the UK were not available until 3 hours after a game. Again I proved that statement is incorrect. Do you accept that you were again wrong.

The main point is Whiterockin told you he accesses the game via IPTV stream so sees exactly what you see. Yet you seemed to ignore the points he made ? As I said before, I tend to just rely on what I see live and info from others on my mobile to clarify any contentious issues. Not really a drinker so apart from using the loos, don't spend much time on the concourse

So at half time you get highlights of the second half? Or are you conceding while at the game most people will only get highlights to partial events during only half the match? Again aren’t you just proving exactly the point? You seem to be arguing against yourself here but making it sound like you disagree with me. This is strange.

If he watches a broadcast then yes of course he sees exactly what I see. My point is broadcast vs no broadcast. Him saying he watches a broadcast isn’t really doing anything other than backing up what I’m saying. You sound like you represent the majority of fans. Don’t bother watching simultaneously on your phone, aren’t really bothered about watching highlights and enjoy the moment. The vast vast vast majority of match goers would be the same. So my point regarding those that watch the broadcasts “generally” having a better idea of what they have just witnessed than those that attend is something you appear to agree with. I
