| Harry Darling on 12:28 - Jun 21 by EagleEye | The manager had numerous opportunities in the last 6 or so games to play Ogbeta but clearly doesn’t fancy him. The recruitment fella who brought him has left now also. Clearly not the managers choice - didn’t we pay a few hundred thousand for him with only 6 months of his contract remaining ? I can only remember him on the pitch once at our home ground after he arrived injured |
Why would any manager/coach buy a player whom he doesnt like? Why bring in Burns on a long loan when he was clearly nowhere near seen as a starter. Why do we still have this coach in situ i what we should be asking. Im seeing incredible "faith" in a guy who has no record at all of developing talent . or utilising our resources efficiently.

Managers don't buy players. Clubs buy players. Julian Winter signs the forms. Mark Allen was heading up the recruitment team.

You're hopelessly out of date if you believe any manager anywhere gets complete say over who their club signs. The last one with that much power was probably Ferguson, and he retired nearly a decade ago. I'd also say that Piroe, Obafemi, Cabango and Downes all developed nicely last season. Any chance of you coming up with something new or are you planning to parrot the same tedious, laughably naive nonsense all next season too?

But surely the manager needs input as well no point scouts DOF signing players who the manager does not want for them to rot in the reserves. It needs to be a collective decision and I am pretty sure it is.

Head coaches have to work with who they're given, that's part of the job. Sending players to rot in the reserves is a failure of the manager, not the recruitment team. Clubs employ Directors of Football and similar roles to ensure there's longer-term planning in place than a manager can be trusted to provide (since realistically they know they're always a few months of bad form from the sack). Managers will have input but they're not the only or even most important voice in many cases. The average player spends longer at a club than the average manager these days. Managers running the business was a uniquely British expectation, in the rest of the world the head coach model has always been the norm.

We saw that with Cooper who was given a few players he clearly didn't want. It shouldn't be that way though, how can a manager be blamed for failure if he is given players he doesn't want and has players he does want sold from underneath him? The manager should be able to say no.

That's the job these days. If they don't like it then they're in the wrong profession. You would hope that all involved would be grownup and work together about it. Mostly that works. Sometimes it doesn't. Both Cooper and RM have ignored players who could have done a job for them in the last two seasons. That shouldn't happen.

I know it's the job but should it be that way? it isn't good for anybody is a player is bought but the manager doesn't want him and doesn't use him. The player and the team can suffer. Looking at Martin now, he decided he didn't want Fulton but WE knew Fulton could do a job. If he doesn't leave what happens? It doesn't help anybody if he is just ignored. That is a slightly different situation though, Fulton obviously being here first. That is a failure of the coach. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

It's not the manager's money. It's not the manager's club. He's an employee.

Yes get that but it's not in the clubs interest to sign players that don't play. The manager will have an input as well. Who do you think wanted Darling and Fisher.

A manager who is doing his job properly will give every player in the building a fair chance, whether they wanted them or not. The job is to the best you can with what's available. If we're routinely freezing out/offering little gametime to costly signings (Whittaker, Joseph, Ogbeta...) that's an issue the club needs to work out with the manager(s) as it's money down the drain. But the solution is not simply to bow to a manager's wishes and only sign exactly what he asks for. Putting everything in a manager's hands usually ends in tears, either due to a sudden exit (Potter) or backhanders and corruption (like with Allardyce, Redknapp).

And our employee, like the previous employee has already shown he is willing to not use players he doesn't want. It's not about signing every player he does want, more about not signing players he definitely doesn't want. There can't be many businesses where the owners force useless equipment on the manager they employ, it's an obvious waste of money.

That last sentence is a joke, right? Can never tell on here. Decisions from above that everyone has to adapt to are the norm in practically every industry.

You clearly have difficulties reading posts and understanding just as you did when Patterson didn't like Martin and wants out 😂😂 Suprise suprise you show up 24 hours after Paterson signs a new contract...... Time to go on the attack in anger to your failure 😂😂😂 Who's going to take the baton up for you after you disappear after another night of logging on and regurgitating your rubbish. Note to AC- Read a post properly before you reply to it totally out of context to how it was typed. 😂Silly AC.
