I disagree with OHL on many things, especially his view of my profession, but I cannot agree with the condemnation of the police. I've dealt with some excellent officers, including some mates I run with who ran towards the bomb in Manchester Arena. Most care deeply about the job and the public. There are dodgy officers but they get known very quickly. Vast majority are good at what they do and just want to help people

As there were 3 of them at the time, no, but I guess you would have single highhandedly done so.Forgive me for asking the police to do what they are paid for.

I disagree with Jon for sure but I served with guys who I trusted with my life. Literally. Pensions…they were good until May killed them. Try being a 60 yr old tackling a 19 yr old coked up cretin with a machete. The scum of the earth will be doing this when Contro is comfortably tucked up in bed with a cup of Horlick Fireman have good pensions yet they spend most night shifts asleep in proper beds then do their part time job in the morning. Meanwhile paramedics are out there no matter what .

I heard an ex policeman admitting it on the radio earlier this year whilst talking about working nights and that is the second ex policeman I've heard admit to that after a previous one said the same during a similar discussion about shift working a few years ago.

Why should they not be allowed a pension the have paid for. Are you suggesting any criminal is denied an OAP as well. You are probably anti police because it seems most hard line union members seem to hate the police. [Post edited 23 Jun 2022 8:44]

The Police only have themselves to blame. They have have voted for the right to strike decades ago.Jim would support them no doubt. The way they have been shafted is as bad as there is . Few outside the service have a clue, which is obvious.

Morning Whitey. Anyone who contributes to a private pension should be lauded. Police pensions do not come out of a pot but from contributions of serving officers. For what it's worth my 5 yr pension with Scottish Power is better .

I can't see why anyone complains about a public service pension they pay in for it. Police pay in 14%, NHS pay in over 11%, if you or I had paid that amount into a pension all our working life with the same company we would get a decent pension. Times have changed though, the police pension is not as good as it was and the NHS pension changed on 1st April this year meaning they can't get it until state pension age, no early retirement even if you have the full years in, until state pension age.

Indeed. I did 21 years and got out. My pension is bascially sheete. We love from the other jobs and investments I hold. Imagine the Police striking.. Not a case of a train service but free reign for criminals from 0700

You can't actually lose a pension, because it's your money, either contributed by yourself or as part of your salary. If anyone tried to take it away it would be theft. It can be frozen by your employer, but not taken away.If that was the case, any employer could sack you on the last day and 40 years of contribution would be gone
