He WAS
We are taking back a former player well past his formidable best .It was the same with Bony .
I completely disagree, Bony was already miles past it when we signed him. Off the back of 2 goals in about 10 games for Stoke (The 2 being against us in one game). Joe played 44 games for Stoke last season at this level, half of them captaining the side. He might not be the Joe we sold to Liverpool, but he still has a lot to offer.

Well, you agree really. Bony was well past his best
Joe will offer more than Grimes though, for sure.
He will be a good captain but he IS past his best which was very good indeed

I did and he was. Allen is too.
I hope he does well for us.
We'll leave it there ,friend
Allen will be important for us, no doubt, but not as influential as some suggest / hope. He will be a safe option. Looking at his performances for Stoke in the past two seasons is more realistic than nostalgia for the player who left us or his performances for Liverpool. Did any other clubs make a serious offer? It still leaves us very short of a forward thinking central midfielder, an attacking wide midfielder, wing back and, imo, goalkeeper.

You clearly are not a sentimentalist as many are . Joe has been on the wane for some time yet he s been seen as a catalyst . We don’t know where Russy will play him yet for a start. We are seeing perfect examples of forum members seeing an opportunity to dig into posters they hate . It’s pitiful really.
I view it as it is. A Stella young player with his whole career ahead of him replaced by one who is effectively returning him and to end his career here . Good luck to Joe and I ont blame him but we are not being realistic. My analogy with Bony is spot on.
If we hold on to Piroe somehow and Obefemi,we will be ok.

I am hoping having Allen will work better than the Downes Grimes partnership. We are definitely still lacking a more attcking midfielder and some pace/creativity out wide.
With Paterson, Ntcham and Congreve coming along we really don't need any more attacking midfielders.
It's difficult speculating about what we do and don't need until we get a firmer idea of what formation we're going to be using anyway. About the only thing we can say with certainty is that we need more pace.
Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Im not sure, i think Paterson probably plays his best drifting off the left. Has been where he was most effective. Ntcham has flattered to deceive, moments of quality followed by 45 of anonymity. Not see enough of Congreve to comment though.
Obafemi is the only pace we have at the minute.
Think a lot will depend on what system Martin is going to play.

If you are a stella young player with a whole career ahead of you , wouldn’t go to bigger club , with a huge signing on fee and pay rise . The club has made money , hopefully to enable us invest . In the short / medium term , Joe is an excellent signing In the meantime I would hope that we are looking for the next stella young player . I don’t think anyone can be criticised in these circumstances.

That last line, spot on. I'll go further, it looks like good business to me. Now we can set a silly high price for Piroe and keep him, we are sorted for the holding midfield roles, we just need some more pace now. Someone out wide maybe?

Really love the fact that we’ve said ‘want him ? Fine £20m. We’re a selling club, but the sales have finished’

Most of our "supporters" have spent the summer claiming that we would accept the first half tidy offer for him. Based on what I have no idea. Since 2016 we've pretty much always got best possible price for players we'd have preferred to keep.

I still think he will be sold.

We might not want to accept the offer, but if an offer came in from the Prem I'd imagine Piroe will be desperate to go. Player power is huge. I'd imagine 15m would see him leaving.

That as may be, but it's still a million miles from the easy capitulation for a bargain price that people seemingly wanted to happen to justify their beliefs.
£15-20m would probably do it. Whether anyone out there wants to gamble that on a player with one Championship season behind him is another question.

I was surprised how big the Downes fee was, £9m rising to £14m. A Hull forward just went for £16m yo £20m.
£15m for Piroe should be the sbsolute lowest. But if that bid came in I'd probably bite their hand off. Great transfer business.

West ham did just that with Downess. OK, its not 15-20 but goalscorers always cost more.

West Ham have gambled £9m on Downes. The rest is dependent on how well he does. They'd probably have to find at least another £6m for Piroe.
