Yet another MP convicted 17:40 - Jul 11 with 2527 viewsJoesus_Of_Narbereth

Seriously how many is that now in the last few years? And yet another one who doesn’t think the rules apply to him. Even the judge said his story wasn’t credible and that he was making things up to fit around his PTSD.

If our elected “representatives” are willing, ready and able to concoct this BS under oath in a court of law, then what chance do we have? The guy should be chucked out, sacked and replaced in a by election.

Open access request - In 2012 reports confirmed 243 (43%) of Parliamentary MP's out of 650, had criminal records over a wide range of offences and included "prison terms" in some cases.

I’ve read but not seen it’s a lot higher now.

He was cleared of due care and attention. Convicted of fail to report.

Higher culpability, lesser harm.

Category 2

6 month ban and a couple of grand fine.

Leaving a car in a dangerous position is a fine only

Judge got it spot on.

I have read the report somewhere else seemed the judge didn't believe him, It look's to me from reading it, that he basically decided to leave the scene, due to the attire he was wearing, yet then said something different, ptsd.. Too be honest, I'm not knocking him for that, If i was secretly wearing a skirt and high heels, and crashed the car, I would most prob scarper as well, I guess the problem is, his excuse is not plausible.

From what I gather, he came out a little while later, it may have been better to have done it at the time, I doubt the police would be interested that a male was wearing that, just the fact of the driving, although I understand his decision to flee.

Judge disbelieved his reasons for leaving the scene but accepted his explanation for the crash. I have a bit of sympathy for this guy, previous victim of rape.

Wouldn’t be surprised he was off his tits on something. The police smashing his door down the next morning didn’t wake him. But that is pure speculation.

Either way I don’t know if there are any Bridgendians on here but I wonder if they are happy with the sort of behaviour exhibited by their Honourable Member.

I don't doubt he followed the sentencing guidelines, but even he said he knew the bloke was a liar.

Shocking what he put forward to get away with it, hopefully his constituents will show what they think of him

I understand that but even so, genuine cases are used as a smokescreen by liars and this person is a proven liar. Just like Bojo, what is one more lie which becomes an eternal excuse for those we are supposed to respect.

The judge didn’t disbelieve that he’d been raped only that was the reason he’d abandon the car and didn’t report it. I know nothing about this guy but have dealt with people over the years who’s lived have been devastated by sex abuse. They sometimes turn to drugs, drink, crime even abuse themselves. It’s a massive thing to lie about. Does happen of course but it’s very hard to discount what he says just because he’s been convicted of an offence.

Do seem to be a high number of MPs in court recently. Crazy

I have to deal with homeless people every working day, lives devastated by drink, drugs and abuse but this MP is a different thing. He is following a well worn road of saying what he needs to say to try and avoid a punishment.

I'm not saying he definiytely hasn't been raped, I am saying he's a liar and politicians have often told lies and used personal tragedy to try and manipulate others. It seems to have become a normal part of the political shenanigans.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

After reading this article https://www.standard.co.uk/new I do suspect he was under the influence as well, be it drink or drugs.

I did think at first, he fled out of sheer embarrassment, but looking at the way he was found the next morning, makes me think he was under the influence.

Not that can be proven of course.

Well yes, that’s probably exactly what the judge thought which is why he put Irvin the second category.

Looking at the current batch of Tory candidates with the exception of Shapps, Sunak and Tugenhat and maybe Javaid, they’re very right wing.

Six months ban seems pretty lenient though, when I suspect there was a high probability he was under the influence, I would have thought this kind of offence would be treated the same as someone refusing to take a breath test.?

Just my curiosity really asking that question, seems a bit of a loophole? Although I suppose from the very minor prangs in supermarket car parks where they just leave without owning up, to demolishing a telegraph pole. It is a bit complicated.

Have a look at the sentencing guidelines on my first post. No evidence to put it in the top tier from what I’ve briefly read

Yes, it would not be, just another accident. But it seems a loophole , he has demolished a lamppost, and made his getaway, the probability is, he was intoxicated, Surely it should be an 18 month ban similar to drink driving for that kind of offence, the judge can say what he likes, the sentence is, I feel not appropriate. Feel the judge was very lenient, if that is the max then it's the max sentence.
