| Jesse Lingard on 21:59 - Jul 22 by Dr_Parnassus | I’m sure he is happy with a quality player being brought in, but if you think it was his decision then you are living on another planet. Do you think it was his decision to sign the Americans in January? No. At least Lingard has a clear use. |
This deal shows Cooper was the wrong man for Swansea. He wanted Peterson and did not play him . He got given a competent centre forward Goykeres then complained about no centre forward after he sent him back. Now it seems he had little say in the purchase of Lingaard on 3 times Ayew's money. Lingaard was not wanted at Man Utd being part of a group perceived as mercenary good time charlie clique and Newcastle and West ham has passed on him as a free transfer. Forest only give him one year. Lets see how the "Non negotiables" go.

Why would this deal show that? His results show he was the right man for Swansea. Spent peanuts and outstripped all managers at this level apart from Brendan… but ran him close. Coventry barely played Gyokeres that season too, quite rightly - he was awful as you yourself said at the time (you need a long memory if you are going to talk nonsense). You said Potter was the right man for Swansea and he’s spent a quarter of a billion Seems you have become a little bitter about him making your pre season predictions look a little silly last season. Let it go, he did you fair and square despite you adding in significant handicaps to alter it.

For one the other players are going to be knocking down the chairman’s door demanding raises and won’t help team spirit when someone next to you in the dressing room is earning ten times as much as yourself. Secondly will the assists be there for him to get the goals? Thirdly if he gets injured they’re screwed. And good enough for them !

Was that happening when Ayew was earning 7 times as much as anyone else then? A single player earning that is completely normal at clubs, not everyone is paid the same. Lingard is an England international who has played excellently for Man Utd and West Ham who was on a free transfer. I’m pretty sure Joe Lolley isn’t going to be demanding equal pay somehow. Why are they screwed if he gets injured? 200k a week is £10.4m a year. It’s no different to signing a player for £6m and giving him 85k a week. The reaction to this signing is strange. Nobody seems to panic when Potter and Brighton spent the GDP of a small country.

| Jesse Lingard on 00:38 - Jul 23 by ReslovenSwan1 | Cooper signed Gibbs White off a long injury spell as well and he was crocked. Played 5 games and sign up for Swansea's rivals after the club got him fit. Yankee crocks Saeson Unlucky. |
So Resloven or Ponty Jack or Parc Zebus or whatever you're calling yourself today: Do you think that's its right that the club signs players for the first team that the manager doesn't want?

I call myself Resloven everyday on this forum. I am suggesting that Cooper had no say in signing Arriola and Morris and no say in signing Lindgaard either. Dr P seems to agree. He had a major sulk after the Arriola deal so logically there could be trouble with the Lingaard deal also. If Lingaard gets injured no deferential Welshman wimp will call him an 'English crock' so not to upset our borderland friend and site influencer from the Wirral. Lingaard was persona no grata at the under performing Red Devils along with Pogba and Greenwood who were all superstars but were seen as a problem and a reason for poor team morale and club reputation. Yes i think it is right clubs sign player the manager does not know. The process is a team effort. Martin did not know Piroe who he plays nor Walsh who he wants to move on. If the manager is consulted and specifically says he does not want this player then the club should take it into account. The manager has to get on with it. Clearly it is better if there is a consensual agreement. Swansea signed Fer and Guidolin admitted he had never heard of him. He liked the player and trusted the club's judgement. Clement clearly should have had a strop over Bony Clucas and Mesa but went with the flow and got his man Sanches and Abraham. Swansea has alway been a joint effort in recruitment. The manager has to manage it. Cooper sulked. He did not play good players he had not selected like Goykeres, Manning Freeman etc It remains to be seen if he pick Lingaard.

I didn’t say he had no say. I am saying I’m sure it wasn’t a demand made by him. Lingard is an excellent player, if the owners are offering him then it’s a no brainer. Think you are looking for things that aren’t there because he made you look silly last season. You won’t be the only one this year no doubt.

I did not comment on the player last season. Opinions can be right or wrong. If Cooper was in charge of Swansea and signed Lingard in the PL for this money I would be appalled. Forest have been a badly run club for decades and Cooper did very well to get the team ethic back in place and install his "non negotiable" principles in place for Worrall McKenna rabban Colbeck and Co. THe NF management have reverted to type. I suspect Lingard will take all sorts of liberties and will clash with Cooper at some point. What Toshack called "good time Charlie". West Ham were mature and established outfit very difference from Nottingham Forest. After his loan he did nothing. [Post edited 23 Jul 2022 13:11]

Lingard didn’t get a sniff at much game time back at United after the storming loan spell at West Ham. Don’t you normally bang on about fringe players/loanees returning needing a particular run in the team? Garrick, Cooper etc

I certainly think that Copper's success last season at Forest was based on getting all the players to play as one for the club. Think the introduction of Lingard may make it harder for him to have the same philosophy. Could be this year's Brentford or Norwich. Will be interesting to watch

Djed Spence joined Cooper on loan last season as he needed to sort himself out. Too problematic at Boro. Look what happened there, ended up one of the best players in the championship last season and got himself a £20m move to spurs.

I think it will be harder dealing with an older, established player who has been problematic. I am not saying he cannot do it, just that I think he will find him less maliable than any of the squad he had last season.

Whilst you can rightly praise him for the way he got him playing Cooper had nothing to do with Spence signing for Forest, he was signed before he was appointed. Colin didn't want him, he wanted to get rid of him on loan - doesn't say much for his judgement.
