| The murder of Wendy Buckney 17:26 - Sep 9 with 3160 views | Dr_Winston | Was told a week or so ago that the man responsible had been released from prison after serving a sentence for two other murders. Now he's been named it's apparently true. How the hell can you ever get out of prison after multiple murder? https://www.walesonline.co.uk/ http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wal https://www.walesonline.co.uk/ | |

I’ve had this debate before. I do not believe murderers should be let out Ever. Capital Punishment was abolished. By MPs believing that the sentence would be LIFE . They were conned Nobody not one soul should be at risk and no parole board can be satisfied beyond reasonable doubt ,so to speak.

In the USA one optional sentence is 'Life without parole'. I don't see why that sentence could not be adopted in this country. That would prevent some of the ludicrous decisions of the Parole Board.

Is that too 'out of the box' thinking for our resident barrister I wonder ?

For whatever reasons a fair number of people see very little of their adult children. So no, not an option that makes much sense to me. Best way out of crime for many is often work. Without meanngful work …. well, the devil can make work for idle hands etc …

Virtually all the cases I remember etc the killers were themselves victims in many ways in their childhood, I can't be arsed to check but didnt Hindley/Brady, the West's, the Bulger killers etc all have poor upbringing. It's a bit left field but the parents of the killers in some circumstances can be the root cause of it all.

I accept that by it's not used enough, probably because the conditions for it's imposition are too narrow in my opinion.

But you miss the point. With respect,LIFE should mean LIFE for murder.ANY murder. This is why hanging was abolished when it was as MP would not have voted for it in a majority.

Take the drug addicts out of jail into proper rehab facilities, cure them and retrain them for a successful reintegration into society for as many as possible. Would cut petty crime and mugging and leave space for people who deserve life to actually get life.

For first or second offences sure. There's not enough help for "new" addicts, and support is better than imprisonment. legalisation will go a long way here also. Unfortunately the vast majority of the nuisance, anti social or acquisitive crime that blights the lives of so many is usually committed by hardened addicts who have been through support many times and have no real interest in leading respectable, contributary lifestyles, so the only real answer is to lock them away from society. Petty crime often isnt. A burglary on some elderly home stealing the contents of a pyss pot is more profound than high value items owned by those who will be insured . Every crime affects..every crime personal

There are millions who have poor upbringings and dodgy parents and don’t grow up to be serial killers and child murderers. It’s an easy cop out to blame everything on the parents and the childhood. Takes any responsibility away from the individuals committing these vile acts.

There is more to it than that, if the chances of somebody being a baddie was 1 in 100 across the board then ok but the chances of been a baddie is increased ten fold/hundred fold etc if they themselves had bad parents.

It's doubtful there are any addicts out there who haven't had some kind of bad past experience that they try to escape from,
