| Just imagine if the club had sacked R M after our poor start to the season on 10:51 - Oct 22 by KeithHaynes | I think there is a change in our fortunes going forwards, scoring more goals and effectively creating more space for goal scoring opportunities. For me there is a huge sea change there. If it ticks tomorrow as we hope I can’t see Cardiff getting near us. The defence has to be more awake, and the inclusion of Harry Darling is almost alert so he has to be switched on. That’s where Cardiff will see their best chances, against a defence that can go to sleep at times. |
That's why teams are sitting back and waiting for us to make a mistake, cut out the mistakes and we are a formidable team.

I don't think we've been all that much more fluid going forward so far this season than we were last, if at all. The goals are being shared out a bit more than before, probably a big benefit of our improvement with set pieces. I suppose the interesting thing for us is that we do potentially have a lot more in reserve than we've seen. We're currently top of the form table and we've done it without Paterson, with Piroe off form, with no Joe Allen and an Obafemi still getting up to full sharpness.

| Just imagine if the club had sacked R M after our poor start to the season on 10:28 - Oct 22 by Dr_Winston | Agree. This is where I think midfield lets us down a bit, and why I'm critical of Grimes. Running around, working hard and making plenty of passes is all well and good, but ultimately pointless if you're not doing anything with it. When his tail is up and he's driving play forward we look a much better side. When we're just aimlessly going from side to side not so much. He's not helped sometimes by the lack of pace on the flanks offering us an outlet to get in behind the defensive lines, but too many chances to attack space get spurned for me. |
100%. When Leon passed sideways he always had an Angel or a Nath bombing on, or a triangle to work it out, Grimes doesn’t have that movement around him, partly because we don’t have the same quality and partly because his instinct is to send the ball straight back where it came from so the players around him get used to not finding the space. It can be sorted out, Grimes needs to break a habit but he will also be more effective with more quality movement around him.

Add to that Grimes can only use his left foot, so his body shape is often wrong to pass the ball the other way.

Not sure anyone is suggesting he is. However as a footballer at his level, passing and receiving the ball with both feet and going forward rather than back would help him to be a better player, for himself and for us

Early on in his career Allen was very one sided now he still has his stronger side but uses the weaker one for playing higher percentage balls not taking as many risks. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
