If back in August you were told we would be equal 6th going into the World Cup break, would you have been happy?
I would have been.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

We should have scored two, could have scored 4 yeasterday. That’s down to the players.

What would you have him say in a press conference where they ask questions designed to write headlines ? ‘We were rubbish, players aren’t good enough, we need better ones to get where I want to be ‘

These press conferences are meaningless, can never say what he means and what he is saying to the players and owners

Worried about being eighth or equal on GD for sixth ?

If addressed to me apologies if not , I'm not worried there are a lot of teams around us and below who have a lot more to be concerned about. My gripe if you can call it that is we've seen the potential in the squad and knowing that and seeing us drift back into d ways is frustrating, happy to be where we are , frustrated that we're not higher

Kevin Cullis was a fraud!

Russell Martin is a manager of a team in the championship who are 8th.

Leys not forget, before we let Bennett go, we had the 9th highest wage bill......now its the 17th.

I am very happy with where we are in the league...there is certainly room for improvement I may add also.

Context is everything.

If we were told that we'd be equal sixth having worked and battled hard for every point in a competitive division then most people would bite your hands off for that.

If were told that we'd be equal sixth but could have been second if we hadn't spaffed away so many points by being weaker defensively than France in 1940 or frightened to actually attack at pace then less so.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

The way the Championship has gone so far, there’s probably 7 or 8 teams thinking they’d be right up the top if they’d played that little bit better, been more clinical or had the rub of the green.

Crazy season

Perhaps.

It's the Piroe/Oba thing that's annoying me most of all.

First the attempt to throw MO to the wolves in September despite all the evidence now pointing to him being more than willing to carry on playing (despite which Oba seems remarkably friendly towards Martin) and now the persistent attempts to play Piroe as a lone striker when it's utterly obvious that he can't do it.

Our wage bill is unquestionably top half and probably top 8, which is where we are.

But as others have pointed out, it’s how we got there not where we are. Because that determined where we are likely to go.

It's certainly questionable because we had the 9th highest when we had 25k a week Ryan Bennett on our books, we reduced it by 1.2M a year once he left albeit a % was eaten into with a few low wage signings.

Its a crazy league, a lot of teams will feel they should be higher up the league and there are certainly a lot of 'ifs' with a lot of clubs.

We can certainly improve on things but I think most would have taken 8th going into the WC break.

We had the 8th highest. We then freed up 20k in salary by releasing Bennet. We then spent that on bringing in 3 players.

We signed Stevens, Oko-Flex and Cundle.

Cundle is on 11k a week, Oko-Flex and Stevens are both on around 5k.

21k. Our wage bill went up, not down.

I would say that the 3 loans in are most likely earning that but there is no way that we are covering 100% of the 3 players full wages.

That’s what tends to happen in loans at this level (full salary coverage), it’s more unlikely we wouldn’t be covering all or most the salary than the opposite being true.

Even if it’s 50% (I’d be pretty certain it’s in the 80%-100% range)… then that is only a 9k saving a week, about 450k over a year. I doubt that would be enough to move us from 8th to 9th in the salary table let alone drop us to 17th.

And I would imagine it was that sort of figure we paid Bennett to cancel his deal here.

Ntcham, Allen, Naughton, Grimes, Oba, Piroe and Darling will be all in the top echelon of earners in this division alone (Premier League legacy contracts elsewhere aside).

Not many clubs in the bottom half could sustain those numbers - but we do.

You think we paid Bennett a six figure fee to get him off our books and then went out and spent his wages to cover wages of 3 loan players......or as you stated actually paid a bit more?

👍🙈

It’s a certainty, yes.

To free a player from his contract usually involves paying off a large chunk of that cumulative owing. You can then use that money to spend on players that you can actually use.

Bennet doesn’t walk away from a guaranteed 20k a week for the goodness of his own heart. He gets paid maybe half that contract in a lump sum which then gives him the opportunity to find another club, on half as much money or kick back and chill if he is that way inclined.

So we were on the poverty line.....we then pay Bennett a handsome 6 figure fee to release him from his contract and in doing so use all his wages to then contribute to paying more in wages for 3 loan players!?

We weren’t on the poverty line. We were in a position where we just couldn’t bring anyone else in without others leaving.

Bennett was on 20k a week and couldn’t be used due to the contract triggering him another year option and another £1m in salary liability.

So instead of having a player take a million off us to do nothing for the year, we essentially swapped him for 3 players we can use over the course of that time.

This is basic stuff, not remotely difficult.

Why release him and bring in Darling

We need a simply stopper CH

It’s the stroking about that Bennett “ failed” . It’s the least important function of a CH

He reached his limit of games with us.

There is a reason he stopped at 49 appearances and then was never given a sniff. He was never playing another game for us whether the manager liked him or not.

Bennett was the roadblock to getting in more bodies. That roadblock was removed by an early lump payment for less than we would have been liable for over the course of that year. That saving was then used to supplement the squad this season.

For all the criticism the Americans take, they aren’t stupid and if it’s one thing they know is business. That decision was basic business.
