Normally would have received a ban under the totting up procedure. Take your time boy. [Post edited 25 Nov 2022 21:32]

I see, drink driving is in a different ball park to debating about a 6 month ban for accumulating 12 points on ones Licence.

| Trundle on 12:08 - Nov 26 by Wingstandwood | I have a lot of sympathy for 'non-boy-racer' types who are on the road all day and face a "totting up" ban because he/she has gone over the speed limit on a few occasions. Nobody can concentrate 100% of the time and imo continually looking at the speedometer can be as dangerous as looking at a mobile phone anyhow. What's the difference? I detest sneaky "fishing in a goldfish bowl" revenue raising, when for example a mobile speed camera is blatantly placed on, or close to a steep hill climb where the gradient gives an illusion of traveling at a far lower speed. Journalist Richard Littlejohn described sneaky revenue raising tactics as "jury nobbling" because it only serves to turn law abiding general public members against the police. |
Third paragraph. They're often to be found in Glais on Birchgrove road. Either looking down the road outside the nursing home or up the hill on the other side. The road rapidly drops to a 20mph limit around a bend on either end. It's a nominal 20 limit because there's a nearby school, but I've never seen a mobile unit there during school hours. They're often there at 7pm on a Sunday evening though.

I know there’s a few police on here, is it right that the police still administer these camera points and fines ? I thought that ended years ago, but then if people don’t know, they don’t know.

Apparently the "Go-Safe" mobile speed camera vans are now night-vision-camera-capable, unlike the years previous to their introduction when night time conditions gave less likelihood of being caught. Not only that, but these vans also tend to exploit the cover of darkness by not stationing themselves directly under a lampost preferring lesser unlit area's/covert lay-by's. https://www.mirror.co.uk/lifes

I panicked for a moment there, but that article you linked was from April 2016, I have yet to see a camera van in the night time.

| Trundle on 18:25 - Nov 26 by max936 | That's a different argument, this was a because he's got 12 pts or more so was at risk of a 6 month ban, if that charge had been anything more serious then I'd agree and it would be a lot longer than a 6 month ban. |
it's not a different argument though. people speed all across the country, not just on the M4. Speedingthrugh towns and villages, o A and B roads and it's often speeding that kills. Anybody who drives abve the speed limit regularly is just a death waiting to happen. Most of us (yes myself included) have been very lucky. I speak as a reformed driver though, I got lucky several times but now I take my time because the roads are too busy and the new highway code rules has seen a big jump in pedestrians just walking across roads because cars should stop. I saw it very often in the town centre before I changed jobs, many near misses even on crossings when the lights were red for the car. In my new job I had to do a driving assessment and an inductin and it was made very clear, no speeding. All our vans have telematics trackers. Mind you I've been told nobody has been pulled for speeding despite there being over 100 vehicles. When celebs get away with it the message is sent out loud and clear and others say well they can do it. There is no excuse, specially when you have been caught several times before.

SirJohnalot, would be an excellent person to give an up to date explanation about the construct/policy and governmental association/funding of 'Go-Safe'. It's crazy to think that speed camera vans have even operated (still do????) under (100% serious) 'Go-Safe' banner outside of U.K jurisdiction in the Republic of Ireland. "POLICE" used to be written on the vans I do not know if the word "POLICE" is or isn't anymore? 'Go-Safe' vans have even been seen operating close to the border within (North) NI/Republic Of Ireland (South) in area's that are generally considered by those of NI 'non-country' accent to be El Paso 'back-of-beyond' type places. The cross border thoroughfare must be a money spinner?

I’m afraid you’re incorrect and the law requires you to be able to do so really. No excuse losing concentration. You’re driving a potential killing machine that can eliminate anyone, anywhere on a highway . Too many drive whilst gabbing to the wife ,looking at phone, thinking about work/ play or the woman next door. How can someone drive and concentrate whilst listening to a banging bass line at ludicrous volume Cars are not personal cages, they are not personal space. Too many men see them as such. How many drive whilst irritated, worried, annoyed, sad, or worse drugged up or having a fag or a sandwich .

Night vision capable speed camera vans' have been seen on the (sorry do not know the name of the road) Toyoda Gosei factory road in Gorseinon and on the Swansea Road, Llewitha FForestfach. They have been seen there after 6:00 pm and onwards, its not only a 9 to 5 occurrence, all hours! Dark and sunlight!

Driving home from Bath today I hit a pothole on the M4, just on the Western Side of the Severn Bridge. "We're back in Wales then" was Mrs. Winston's response.

I always remember talking to a ground-working crew from Yeovil who were laying cables and they could not get over the state of Welsh roads and that was about thirty years ago. Says it all along with what you have posted.

A close relative of mine was caught a few years back on the uphill climb on the same side of the road that the factory is located at in Gorseinon. The 'Go-Safe' mobile speed camera van is situated on both the top and bottom factory side of the hill. The nightime location tends to be at the very top of the hill, on the uphill climb in a lay-by between two lamp posts that are quite a distance from each other. In darkness that camera trap is easily unnoticed, or if observed?.. It may not even be seen until it's way too late to lessen speed! I guess many have had a surprise to find out that they have been caught in places like that, because darkness meant they did not even see the camera van. And of course many people did not know about night time capability.
