Here we go again with a right old tussle for Russell.

True numbers.

Swansea City manager Russell Martin is focussed on his teams first game back after the World Cup break and for him they won’t come any bigger than Norwich City at the swansea.com next Saturday. Martin played over three hundred games for the canaries. 0

Joe Allen to undergo five days of assessment before Norwich City 6th Dec 2022 09:00
Ollie Cooper and Ben Cabango are fit for Saturdays game against Norwich City at the swansea.com. Swansea City - Getting ready to go again 8th Dec 2022 13:41
The Swans get ready to go again for the second half of the season. It’s a big first game against Norwich City a team who find it difficult to stay in the Premier League but are usually top quality in the Championship. 0

Obafemi not playing against Norwich City isn’t an issue 9th Dec 2022 11:36
The more simple selection issues for Russell Martin this weekend will assist him now it’s clear Michael Obafemi hasn’t recovered enough to be selected in a Swansea City starting eleven. That will leave Martin with a straight shoe in for Joel Piroe. 0

Substitutes: Andy Fisher, Harry Darling, Joe Allen, Olivier Ntcham, Liam Cullen, Armstrong Oko-Flex, Ollie Cooper.

Some of the players, a large proportion of whom were here befor Martin got here, only have one or two or three gears. Fourth and fifth are not in them.
Martin, or anyone else, can’t change that.

Aye square pegs for round holes.

You say that as if it’s abnormal.

Most managers will have players that were there before they arrived. I can’t think of a manager that brought in a completely new starting XI.

There is no way he would want to be without Piroe, Allen, Manning, Grimes, Naughton, Oba, Benda or Cabango anyway.

Add to that he has Darling, Fisher, Pato, Wood, Cundle, Sorinola, Flex and Ogbeta, many of whom have worked with him before and fought to bring them here.

If they aren’t good enough, then why did he waste money on them?

Or are we suggesting Joe Allen, Joel Piroe, Obafemi, Grimes etc aren’t good enough to play a regurgitated MK Dons system?

Interesting, he will be pushing to sell them all then right?

He calls himself a coach yet refuses to coach young talents in Joseph and Whittaker ,whilst bringing in Ogbeta who has never figured .
Throw in the pacy Ok Flexi and his tiny cameo parts and the simply outed Finn Stevens and 6ur average Joe would think we have a madman in charge l
Sadly, he is seen as worthy of @nother contract, apparently.

He hasn’t refused to coach Whittaker or Joseph, he decided to send them out to get first team football experience in league one. It’s quite obvious they wouldn’t feature this season so it was in everyone’s best interests they furthered their development away from Swansea. Or maybe you would prefer them on the bench or in the u21’s with Cullen ? You would be the first person to attack the manager if Piroe was on the bench and Whittaker was in front of him.

Remember Joe Allen ? 🤪

Sorry I thought I would try some positional changes today as the have some quality players who are so adaptable I sure they'll get the hang of it after a couple of minutes.

So we will start nice and easy with our play deep in our own half and invite a high press with some calamitous passing. Then shall we try some defending set pieces with one of our weakest header of the ball on the front post, Oh! That didn't work the first time let's try again, Oh dear!

It's OK I can chop and change during the game to see if we can make up for that poor start by the players.
We seem to be playing better now but how do we get a goal when they are defending so deep.
I have an idea!
No, no, I have no idea at all so let's try some slow passing, unless the players want to think of something different but I'm not sure I would like that they might get out of position. and that might make thing worse than losing by actually losing by more! If they do that I might not pick them for the next 10 games.
I know I'll pick players in positions that they are good in but ask them to play in a style that is totally beyond them and not use the skills that they do possess.
We may have better players on the bench but they may not want to play as they have been to Qatar and being away won't know all the wonderful things we have been working on without them.
Thank goodness that game is out the way maybe he will try and pick his best team which can defend properly and attack with intent from the start for the next game.
