Swansea City v Norwich City : Matchday Thread 2022/23 21:18 - Dec 3 with 10439 viewsNotLoyal

Here we go again with a right old tussle for Russell.

True numbers.

Norwich City encounter is a big deal for Russell Martin - Payback time ? 5th Dec 2022 09:42
Swansea City manager Russell Martin is focussed on his teams first game back after the World Cup break and for him they won’t come any bigger than Norwich City at the swansea.com next Saturday. Martin played over three hundred games for the canaries. 0

Joe Allen to undergo five days of assessment before Norwich City 6th Dec 2022 09:00
Ollie Cooper and Ben Cabango are fit for Saturdays game against Norwich City at the swansea.com. Olivier Ntcham who suffered a training injury which ruled him out of Cameroon’s first World Cup group game is also stating he is fit for this weekends game. He joins the swans on Wednesday morning at Fairwood for a fitness check that will determine his availability for Saturday. 1

Swansea City - Getting ready to go again 8th Dec 2022 13:41
The Swans get ready to go again for the second half of the season. It’s a big first game against Norwich City a team who find it difficult to stay in the Premier League but are usually top quality in the Championship. 0

Obafemi not playing against Norwich City isn’t an issue 9th Dec 2022 11:36
The more simple selection issues for Russell Martin this weekend will assist him now it’s clear Michael Obafemi hasn’t recovered enough to be selected in a Swansea City starting eleven. That will leave Martin with a straight shoe in for Joel Piroe. 0

Swansea City: Steven Benda; Nathan Wood, Kyle Naughton, Ben Cabango; Joel Latibeaudiere, Jay Fulton, Matt Grimes (captain), Ryan Manning; Jamie Paterson, Luke Cundle; Joel Piroe.

Substitutes: Andy Fisher, Harry Darling, Joe Allen, Olivier Ntcham, Liam Cullen, Armstrong Oko-Flex, Ollie Cooper.

Norwich City: Angus Gunn, Max Aarons, Grant Hanley (captain), Ben Gibson, Isaac Hayden, Sam McCallum, Gabriel Sara, Danel Sinani, Teemu Pukki, Kenny McLean, Josh Sargent.

So, Norwich score after 90 secs, and comfortably deal with Huff & Puff City for 93 mins, restricting us to one terrible “shot” by Latibeau o dear, (how does this guy get picked every game!??) and one downwards header by Naughton, tipped over by the keeper.
If we had scored by some miracle, I felt The Canneries could have upped their game in a heartbeat with the pace they had right through the team.
They reminded me of us, when we were more fluid and had pace, and had more than one PLAN A of a game plan.
Our players look utterly brainwashed into keeping the ball at all costs, with no one prepared to take a chance with a forward pass, or God forbid have a snap shot at goal!
Why would you start with Patterson out wide, and leave Oko-Flex on the bench until 10 mins from the end? every time he comes on he’s like a breath of fresh air. He takes people on and has pace, just what our Steve Wonder of a manager obviously doesn’t see.
As for bringing it out from the back, are there 2 slower centre backs in this league than Woods and Cabango?
The former looks like he’s breaking in his yellow boots for a mate, and Cabango frustrates, because there’s obviously a player waiting to break out there, but is so inconsistent.
Why not start Oli Cooper a player who was on standby for Wales in The World Cup, and has been playing some excellent football for us ?
There’s a growing list of worrying “why’s” in my humble opinion of MARTINBALL.
If you take your time and read this forum, planetswans and SCFC2, you will find an underlying, all pervasive apathy, towards this manager’s plan on what he thinks is the best way forwards for Swansea City fc
Some still have faith in “The Process” and I wish them well, but I haven’t been so bored, or less concerned about The Swans results since this guy took over.
My big worry is he BS’ed his way into the job over the clueless owners, and it’s all about to happen again with his contract negotiations.
Anyone fancy another 3 yrs of this ? with again no proper backing?
Good luck to you if that’s the case, I definitely won’t be renewing my season when he does his smoke and mirrors act with the Yanks.
I will still pay to see the odd game, because it’s in my blood to go and watch The Swans, but as far as I’m concerned….The Emperor has no clothes on.

it's amazing the apathy I cant remember when we last had a matchday thread that ran to only 4 pages especially as we hVent played for weeks.

I noticed many empty seats yesterday and I'm sure there will be many more who wont be renewing their seasons due to a combination of factors especially with the current financial squeeze on folks budgets. The football is bland and without result I'm not even sure we would have beaten an 11 man Cardiff which was our last win.
Some are advocating supporting Martin by acquiring players but what players and are they within our budget just as it is said we cannot perhaps afford a different manager surely the same is true of players?

End of next season

That long , o dear. Unless some positivity starts to manifest itself soon in how we approach and play the game then I really hope either his head is turned by a Club who think he's better then he's shown so far or the door is opened for for him to go either way the thought of more of the same is quite depressing.

I truly wish this season was over now.
I look forward to no game now.
I missed yesterday and can’t connect my vpn and frankly,Indidnt miss it

Let’s be frank.
Martin is slowly strangling any spirit supporters had . It is sickening made worse but he factvhe is so smug.
We need to ditch him before the damage is made irreparable . A decent cischbeouodcsee us cruise to playoffs at least .
Piroe is shot to pieces,a real pacey player left on the bench as Whittaker was .

Defence is shambolic as it was at the start of the season

It’s there right in front of us

I forget we are even playing half the time and often am only reminded just before KO.

Normally I could rattle off dates I’m looking forward to like Cardiff away this season, yet I couldn’t even tell you what month it is in.

Never felt so deflated in my 30 years supporting the club. Have always had a goal in mind and worked towards it, however this genuinely feels like wasted life for everyone.

We aren’t working towards anything other than having odd looking stat sheets, there is no desire or ambition to win.

“The process” is a fallacy that will never arrive at its destination, only hold off any criticism or managerial culpability, it’s by design - just like it was at his last club that also never reached the destination.

The sooner people wake up the better.

Pretty much sums up how I feel.

I missed Saturdays game as I took the grandkids to a light show in Margam park Saturday evening, in reality I could have gone to the game & got back in time to go to Margam Park I just couldn't be arsed.

Not sure if its Martin or the break due to COVID but missing a Swans game is an easy option these days something that hasn't been the case for the past 40 years.

Possession is probably more accurate. The opposition are completely happy with us having the ball as part of their game plan, not sure it counts as pressure as such.

We don’t look like scoring despite all the ball we have because it’s incredibly easy to defend, and the tactics deployed in conjunction with our possession are horrific. It’s a combination that unfortunately doesn’t make for good viewing… or results.

i's not entitlement mun, it's frustration. We have a better team than the manager is picking and devising tactics for.

Our 2 best attacking players left on the bench. Players out of position, one of them who sn't good enough to play in his best positiin (yes Lati) and players sent ou on loan who appear to be better than players kept here, yes Whittaker and Jospeh out but Cullen kept here.

It is not delusion to point out the football Martin is making us play is slow, pedestrian even and lacking in attacking nous.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

I think the Wigan game will answer your question...forward options ignored in favour of sideways and backwards passes allowing the opposition to get back and in shape...

After games where we have played at walking pace, he has said we have played brilliantly despite losing at pedestrian speed.

I also remember that game Flex took it upon himself to attack the opposition at speed and he got hooked and Martin said he wasn’t following instruction.

We have some Premier League pedigree and international standard players with dozens of caps to their name. The evidence by a mile, points to the bloke in charge who’s pedigree as a manager has never shown itself to be successful at any level.

Some of the players, a large proportion of whom were here befor Martin got here, only have one or two or three gears. Fourth and fifth are not in them.
Martin, or anyone else, can’t change that.
