| Great To See Good Order In The House 08:30 - Jan 5 with 1443 views | STID2017 | Just to say some great debates and chats on the site yesterday, all conducted in a convivial manner. Long may it continue so that Admins can have a quiet time of it. Have a good day all | |

| Great To See Good Order In The House on 08:59 - Jan 5 with 1164 views | onehunglow | I’m seeing double. I was taken aback at how old some of us are. We really should have other things to do than squabbling with usernames we will never see. That s the theory. The Swans runs deep on us all though and Lucifer takes over . My birthday is on the Sunderland game day. 3-0 to us | |

Reading earlier how Rocky Marciano had a fight with an Australian soldier in Wind Street Swansea during the war. When arrested by the "White Tops" ( American Military police he was given the choice to either go into Military clink or join the boxing team. The rest as they say is history

When Rocky was stationed here in WW2 he used to catch the Mumbles train into Swansea and train in the infamous Jimmy Wilde's in Alexandra Road - opposite High Street station.

Didn't know that but makes sense. I know part of his duties while based here was protecting Mumbles Pier area, as well as protecting the American Hospital ( the H shaped hospital which became Morriston Hospital). I also understand that Joe Louis was based in the American motor pool in what is now FRF Vauxhall on Neath Road. Plus many may remember the old Nissan huts that stood opposite where the DVLA now stands

It was only recently tht the old parts of Morriston hopsital that were part of the old military hospital were demolished. many of us will have walked through them, down the tunnel. In schools we teach kids all sorts of history but we don't teach them some relevant history closer to home. How many Swansea kids now of the town centre and how it was destroyed or that we had an AA battery on Mumbles hill though it never shot anything down, how many know of the docks and how Swansea used to be called Copperopolis? Then there's these stories of American boxers, I didn't know the US motor pool was at FRF. Anyway, back on topic, it looks to me like several new userames have sprouted since the new rules came into force, looks like (despite some claims to the contrary) the new rules are good for business.

Agree our local history is rich and varied and just as worthy ( if not more ) as learning of events in far flung places. Also agree the forum seems to be working well under the new rules. Even myself and Dr P are able to have discussions without either of us resorting to silliness. Long may it continue

and as part of that history many sea captains preferred to employ Swansea sailors due to their experience going around the Horn . I do hope the Pub signage was saved somewhere

| Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.
