| Come on Wrexham on 22:38 - Jan 7 by ReslovenSwan1 | I support Swansea as that is where my ancestors lived and struggled to survive to a certain extent. Times were hard. I was raised in Carmarthenshire and Neath Valley and I emphasize with a greater area other than the Town (later city) of Swansea. Swansea city loyalties extend well beyond the city limits. It is the definition of ethnicity I gave you earlier which you do not empathise with. Location politics language, religion, music etc. I am aesthete but I empathise with the community. (The Welsh community Chapels and all that). Wrexham have the same ethnic background. Rivalries for me are predominantly ethnic rivalries. I want Welsh team to beat English teams. If you have no empathy with your community then it is not surprising you care not a jot. Many Anglophiles come from English immigrant heritage in the industrial revolution with indifference to Wales self determination passed down from generation to generation. |

Its Wrecsam. No ‘x’ in the welsh language, see ….. Their fans are top draw …..

‘Rivalries for me are predominantly ethnic rivalries’ You don’t half talk some utter rubbish and make some sweeping generalisations. Suppose this is the trouble when one lives in the sticks in Wales and whose only contact with English people is away fans at football games, assuming you go to games.

Well no - English people tell us how to run our lives in Cymru on a daily basis. Westminster, the BBC, the Royals ….. The model you have described would be perfect though if you could fix it. ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ·ó ¬ó ³ó ¿

I am stuck with my sporting viewpoint. I was born in Resolven and lived in the Valleys and Carmarthenshire and am a largely rural sort of bloke. My English friends know my opinions and sporting priorities and accept them. I ave lived overseas for over 10 years in 5 different countries and speak 3 language (2 conversational not fluent) and learning another. I go to games. I want Welsh team to do well and beat English teams. Swansea has been my team since Toshack times. I do not understand Welsh people that support English teams. It just makes no sense to me. I am bemused at foreigner supporting Swansea but encourage it and certainly would not claim to be a be a bigger fan than them.

Why do you want Welsh teams that have nothing to do with us to beat English teams that have nothing to do with us? You are prejudiced against the English being the answer I suppose.

If I can interject, one does have to be biased against anyone ? For example, had Wreham been playing Plymouth Wanderers of the Saturday amateur league 5th division in the Cup, I would have been supporting the team from the south. Then if Wrexham won and went to play Coventry, I would want Wrexham to win. However had Coventry won and gone on to play say a Liverpool, ManU, etc I would switch allegiance to Coventry? Just often about wanting the underdog to triumph, nothing more ?

That’s different though isn’t it, supporting the underdog is about the spirit of sports for want of a better way of putting it. I don’t think Resolven’s quite motivated by the same principle. For what it’s worth, I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for Wrexham. I went up there midweek in 2006 for the Welsh cup game, really friendly welcome and lovely ground. Enjoyed the documentary and what’s happening up there. Them being from Wales is completely irrelevant for me, particularly as that area has more in common with Lancashire than us. A look on their forum recently is a bit disappointing though, their ‘success’ seems to have got to their heads a bit. Interesting to compare their views on drawing Sheffield United in the cup with ours when we took 5k to Bramall Lane.

I loved Arsenal when I was a kid, David Rocastle was my hero, then Ian Wright, Henry. Didn’t for a second occur to me not to like them cos they’re English, All my family are welsh, I went to Uni in wales and stayed in wales till I graduated.

Hmmm, except we did it, rising as high as the eighth best team in the land and winning a cup and did it without Hollywood money. Whereas they are having the second bite at the cherry to get out of the national league and aren’t running away with it….unless you’re talking about seasons well before my time? As I say, I’m slightly put off by their message board and the arrogance there. They’ll be proclaiming themselves as the club of Wales with plans to do buses from Swansea and Cardiff soon!

Again, why have a preference for other Welsh clubs? Particularly a club whose supporters chant about Jacks who have lost their lives and turn Hyms and Arias into a song about pedophilia? That’s just, odd mate.

Not sure if it was on the same scale, but certainly the late, great Malcolm Struel was the main financial driving force behind our rise from the nadir of re- election in the mid 1970's, persuading Toshack to come here, financing all the brilliant players we saw through that period, plus kick starting the rebuilding of the Vetch ( which of course sadly stopped at one stand ). Plus the rise to the First Division which we topped three times that first season and eventually finished 6th. It was a mixture of Roy Of The Rovers and Hollywood in those days. Something Wrexham can still only dream about emulating. I still wish them luck though. Must admit I haven't read their forum - cheeky upstarts
