| Manning 09:03 - Jan 15 with 3009 views | sw02sea | It’s obvious the yanks as usual, are waiting to sell before they buy. So For a few grand extra on his wages, surely it’s a no brainier to give Ryan Manning an extended contract? He was our best player today, and in previous games. If you consider Latibeaudiere is supposedly our other wingback, there are light years between the 2 of them. Manning isn’t the greatest of defenders, but offers us a considerable more going forwards, and always gives it 100% | | | | |

Yes, I say that, and I still do. The difference being that is what he has been offered by a multi billion pound organisation compared with Swansea.

I wonder if there is a bigger payer of salaries than the football club in the area ?

Of course it is, but from the people offering it, not the person accepting it. (Not sure I’m with you on immoral ) Where do you draw the line at what is and isn’t acceptable ? What about film stars, pop stars etc ?

| Manning on 11:40 - Jan 15 by sw02sea | When you think of the “lost” wages we’ve spent on the likes of Sorinola, Fin Stevens, Liam Walsh, Paterson, Obafemi, not to mention previous crap loans, we could have easily accommodated a wage rise, for what would be an appreciating asset in Manning. Those whinging on about keeping the club sustainable, should have a go at the people responsible for bringing in the dead wood in the first place. |
The question that can be asked is if Manning can be replaced with a better player than him for the close to £1m per year salary demands. Swansea had the same thing with Christie. Hull offered more money than Swansea. This is down to scouting. I put it to you there are better cheaper players than Manning on half the money Manning wants. Swansea have to find them while leaving the current offer on the table. I think Manning has no plans to sign for anyone. He is running his deal down come what may. He is of course risking a nasty ACL and having no income next season. Young guys love a gamble even with a young family.

What about them This topic is about Manning vis a vis football. However ,I ll answer,in music ,the richest have often created something unique in their oeuvre that can resonate and linger down the passages of time Sorry, that doesn’t apply to Ronaldo

Re resonating through time, people still talk about Gigg’s goal v Arsenal, Pele, Maradona, these people do create moments that will lastZ It’s all about supply and demand in the free market. Unless FIFA install a maximum wage. These offers will be there. If I was nearing retirement and was offered silly money for playing football, I’d certainly have to think about it.

Bit like the old boot money in rugby mate, there will always be a way of increasing the weekly wage.

A decent reply I personally think your sense of fair play and morality would obviate you doing that .

I’d only need a certain amount of wealth, after that I’d give it all away. If that was the case, would it still be immoral ?

We could play Naughton, no he will get skinned for pace. We could try Cabango no he would struggle covering down the left. We could try Latibeaudie on the left but he is struggling on the right with little protect in front of him. We could try Obegeta but he is young, that didn't stop Ben Davies when Talyor had his bad ankle injury and Obegeta seems to have more pace, but we put him out on loan so he could get game time? Shame he wasn't used when Manning got injured although the first game covering would have been against Burnley away and we weren't playing with a back four then although Manning did seem to slip back into that position when need on our good run this season. Manning isn't the best defender Bidwell use to cover his defensive lapses as he surges forward but Cooper seems to be tracking back to assist these days We need both right and left full backs

He does tend to have lapses in concentration surging forward and forgetting his defensive duties when other defenders are pressing high up the pitch with the ball leaving us short at the back, Bidwell use to cover him , Downes did when Manning played as part of a back three and Cooper is now doing like wise. There is no doubt he is our best option on the left, seems more comfortable when he knows he is playing a full back role as the team shape is better and they know he has to be covered as he bombs forward, he has had his best Swans season so far and was missed during his injury absence. Did try and point out we do not have adequate cover for him in the squad. As we seem to be playing four at the back we haven't got the right side sorted yet either.
