Pete Davies RIP 17:41 - Jan 25 with 855 viewsKeithHaynes

OS

Swansea City is saddened to learn of the passing of the club’s former player Peter Davies at the age of 86.

Peter featured as a wing-half for the Swans between 1959 and 1965, making 155 appearances and scoring five goals.

He was a Welsh Cup winner and a two-time Wales Senior Cup winner during his time at The Vetch.

Hailing from the village of Dafen, Peter began his playing career with his local club before joining Llanelli and gaining experience under the guidance of the revered future Celtic manager Jock Stein.

A move to Arsenal followed at the age of 21 and, although he would not make a league appearance for the Gunners, he was a regular in their successful reserve side.

From there Peter returned to south Wales with the Swans, and would feature for Brighton, Merthyr, South African side Germiston Callies, and Ammanford before hanging up his boots.

Following his retirement Peter became a landlord at local pubs the Criterion, the Prince of Wales and the Bay View on Mumbles Road; the latter proving a popular gathering spot for John Toshack’s Swansea stars during their rise to the top-flight.

Everyone at Swansea City sends their sincerest condolences to Peter’s friends and family at this sad time.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.
