 Swansea City have the worst disciplinary record in the championship 7th May 2023 08:00Going in to tomorrows final league game of the season Swansea City top the Championship disciplinary charts with 108 yellow cards and 3 reds. That’s surprising because when we had a weekend video chat on Friday morning our general consensus was that the Swans were most certainly one of the better sides regards discipline this season.  0

We have 7 players who have picked up 71 yellow cards between them. Those 7 players are in the championship top 50 of the total of 516 players in the championship who recieved yellow cards .
Add in our 3 red cards and our discipline has clearly been appalling this season. | |

Opposition bookings 89, 4 sending offs
In only five games this season did a team playing against us have zero bookings which included both QPR matches.
Contrast our 108 this season against our best season in the PL when we only had 55 and no reds. This was the second best in tye PL clearly the referees did not like us then either. | |

The fact that our 7 players includes our 5 defenders who did not play all matches and our two defensive midfielders is a result of us loosing possession in our own half resulting in our players have no option other than to foul players. | |

You would need to look deeper into the stats to make any sense. Often in a game it seemed that we were continually fouled with no bookings until we received a booking then later the opposition would get a booking. Consistency is lacking, our players would see the ref letting things go but we would be punished. | | | |

I don't take these things on face value, we've had many an occasion where Manning is fouled, worthy of a yellow on it's own merit, Manning then gets up and confronts the other player, both players end up squaring up to each other, and pick up a yellow, but the yellow for the foul is not issued, we see some players kicking the ball away to avoid a quickly taken free kick, some get booked, some don't, goalkeeper waisting time, some get booked, some don't, diving, arguing and so on. |  | | |

Hardly discrimination just as it was discrimination when we had the least cautions when we were in the Premier League.
As I have said we have SEVEN players in the top 50 in the championship for players collecting cautions. Doubt anyone can disagree that MOST of our cautions were well deserved. | |

I know, I was referring to the totally predictable and regular fiasco at the back which Martin has never seemed to realise that the players just don't have the quality to even pass ten yards to their own side without screwing up on a regular basis and thus shouldn't be left to muck about at the back when in possession.
Because basically they've proved over and over and over again that they're not up to it.
Perhaps a better coach would have recognised that and done something about it during the season? | | | |
