| Welsh Tourism 10:58 - Jul 17 with 69051 views | Dr_Winston | https://www.theguardian.com/uk Already on its knees in recent years thanks to the Welsh Govts unnecessarily heavy Covid restrictions, refusal to deal with M4 congestion and seeming intention to actually make getting around in Wales even harder. To top that off we've still got the mooted tourist tax to come. Is there anything in this country that they can't screw up? | |

| Welsh Tourism on 16:08 - Aug 6 by majorraglan | Since 2019 we’ve had the pandemic, increase in oil prices, Ukraine war, Brexit and now there’s a bit of a recession taking place in many of the countries we’d attract tourists from. On top of that, the data is comparing the figures to 2019 which was before we had any of the above. In London, some of the big companies have been complaining about the changes to duty free shopping which is seeing the wealthy head to Milan and Paris to buy their designer shopping. |
UK expected figures down 8 percent on 2019 figures. Wales expected down 33 percent on 2019 figures. https://www.visitbritain.org/2 [Post edited 7 Aug 2023 8:21]

Don't come on here spreading facts. It doesn't suit the Nationalist narrative. Once more for the crowd, those of us who criticise Wales don't do so because we hate Wales, we do so because it should be better and could be better. No whataboutery please now but the Senedd is useless. And Drakeford, though he has the best outcome in this poll, he is still disliked by the majority, in a poll of 1000 people anyway; as much as you can trust any poll too.

Numbers are just a guessing game. Just a load of bollo x Hkw can anyone say what visitors Wales gets. They could fly into Bristol or Birmkngham and then head for Wales. They could come by ferry through any of the south of England terminals and head for Wales. As I said. Loads of Dutch and Belgium cars around this summer. I bet none are included in the figures as they would come through English ports. Mid Wales hotels. B&b's have been chocca all summer [Post edited 7 Aug 2023 13:29]

So numbers are a guessing game but we've had an "awful lot" of European tourists? To quote you, that is a load of bollo. How do you know you haven't seen the same car 4-5 times? Have you been to all the B&B's and hotels and asked how many Euro tourists have stayed there? If your "opinion" is more valid than official figures then fair enough but when people book a stay they have to supply a home address, when you book in anywhere these days you have to give your address which is how they know the overseas numbers because it's somebody's jobs to collect and collate the info. If the tourism figures are so good why isn't the Senedd screaming them from the rooftops? Maybe in your small area there is a decent number but Wales wide?

The WAG can do nothing wrong in some folks eyes, regardless ,this is why we as a nation will never progress because for to do so would mean a complete reset of voters opinions and voting patterns. I'm guessing alls well in mid Wales , because little ever changes there ,the sun rises, the sun sets etc etc

I’ve been into north Wales many times this “ summer” and the foreign number plates are very few and far between. Mid Wales is ,has and always will be the most prosperous part of Wales . Even a cursory look around Llandrindod,Newtown,Welshpool,Llanidloes tell you that . Wales is and always has been bitterly divided. Address that and progress can be made Meanwhile, big issue right now in Ceredigion is some chap with an Italian surname refusing to pay a parking fine as it wasn’t in Welsh . He won his case though

I’ve been driving 180 miles along the A 483 for fully 47 years and it has always looked pristine . To a visitor ,mid Wales looks timelessly prosperous ,unlike the urban morass

Only by a minority ,"An exclusive poll by YouGov has shown contrasts the Welsh Labour leader's public standing with other Welsh leaders like top Tory Andrew RT Davies as well as comparing their standings to UK politicians like Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and UK Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer. Although Wales' First Minister significantly out polls his rivals, he still has a net positivity rating of -3 which means that more people seem him unfavourably than favourably."

Hundreds? Ovee what time period is that? Do you have an eidetic memory? Do you write these things down? No, what you have is your estimation which make little difference because it's about a small area, not the whole of Wales. What you know to be true about your small area of Wales isnt the whole story. The figures posted are figures for the whole of Wales.

I think the Swansea Bay region counting down to Kidwelly, should be selling ourselves possibly on a promotional montage. In adverts or sky when we are live . There is so much to do I'm this region. Margan Park, Avon Valley , neath Valley swansea valley Pembrey country park , castles , gower, Swansea bay , show caves , now Penderyn Whiskey distillery So much to advertise

Absolutely agree, we should be doing much better. Thinking back, tourism into Swansea increased when we were in the Premier league. Just the advertisement of that was enough to bring more people in. We have plenty to see but we also need to work on thinsg to do. When the weather is bad we don't want people sat indoors moaning and not coming back.

I've got to be honest I don't think the things you listed are much of a draw to pull in tourists apart from Swansea Bay and the gower. Yes the parks would interest mountain bikers and walkers but apart from that I think the draw would be limited.

I agree with you. An American tourist is hardly likely to fly 3,000 miles across the Atlantic and then trot down to deepest darkest west wales to see Margam Park, the Millenium Coastal Path etc when they have the attractions of the South East to visit nearby. Margam Park v Blenheim Palace or Hampton Court, while I do like the Millennium Coastal Path/Pembrey Country Park but it’s not going to attract huge numbers like Hyde Park and there are lots of other examples. Gower is nice, but it’s not going to attract people from all over the world. Stunning scenery and great beaches, but there are other places they can get that. In terms of the Swansea Bay area, I think Kidwelly Castle and Castell Carreg Cennen are up there with the best castles in the U.K. [Post edited 7 Aug 2023 18:35]

Camper vans clogging up the roads chucking out diesel gas with incumbents who spent fork all wishing the local community preferring even to brew up in the van and look at the rain tumble down Onto the roof . They cause nothing but pain apart from site owners . You must have been stuck behind Peggy and Pete on the 483 between Llandod and Newtown . Don’t tell me you weren’t cursing these oiks.
