Junior Doctors strike 08:49 - Aug 11 with 5873 viewsraynor94

Just watching breakfast TV, and they showed a junior doctor's pay slip.

After 6 years of training he's on £14 an hour £2100 a month take home, truly shocking.

No wonder there are so many moving to Australia and NZ.

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game

Yes pay in the public sector is less and contrary to belief the pensions aren't as gold plated as people think.

The final salary pensions have long gone, there are quite a few recruits don't join the scheme because it isn't worth it and in 30 years time there might not be a pension scheme, I advise new recruits not to join and to buy a house to rent.

As regards policing, thousands are tumbling out of the job due to lack of funding and politicisation of senior officers .
I struggle to find one CC who truly backs his troops.

The pensions were hammered some years ago although public are blissfully aware .

Fire boy is dead right about not relying on a job pension.

It is shameful

Final salary is also or in some cases been abandoned in the public sector too.

People on here are “bickering” amongst ourselves (myself included) - in reality workers are being short changed on pensions and a raft of other things. Maybe if we could get some of the people who could work, but choose not to and choose to live on benefits instead of contributing to society and working we’d be able to divert some money from unemployment benefit and put it in to pensions and health.

It's not as simple as that. Many who are working full time, cannot afford to buy or rent property, especially in London or other big cities

That’s true, but there were 568,000 work visas handed out last year.

Previously we’d have looked at the non-working well but got immigrants to blame these days.

And herein lies a story many newspapers don’t like telling.

One of the reasons we left the EU was to take control of our borders, but we haven’t and migration is at record levels. We’ve got disputes at ministerial level between those who want to curtail numbers and those who want to maintain the status quo to keep the economy going. We aren’t building enough houses, we aren’t investing in infrastructure like roads, hospitals, water, national grid and when we do invest it’s becomes a cluster ***** and the cost goes off the Richter scale like HS2 and Cross Rail.

We’ve got quite a few people in this country who have done their bit, there’s a cohort who can’t work, then there’s a cohort who’d like to work but are unable to get work and then there’s a cohort who choose not to work but expect the state to subsidise their life style.
We need to help the people who want to work but can’t get a job with training opportunities etc etc and in terms of the latter, I’d introduce work for the dole, 40 hours a week voluntary work etc or serious reductions in benefits etc.

Instead of voluntary work, why not proper training or education?

Absolutely,100% agree with you.

Maybe I didn’t articulate myself well enough. When I said the latter, I was referring to the last cohort in the previous paragraph who just don’t want to do anything and expect the state to sustain their existence.

Mainly because the majority of those on the dole were offered 12 years of free education which they did not take advantage of when they could be bothered to go to school. Unfortunately parents who are long term unemployed have little interest in sending their children to school and the poverty cycle continues.

Or maybe, just maybe, policy over the past 20 years has allowed corporate and individuals to avoid paying their fair share of tax.

Tell me, why is it ok for the likes of Baroness Mone and Serco/crapita to sponge of the taxpayer at far greater rates than anyone on benefits?

Plus the education system isn't for for purpose, it's at the whim of ministers who have no understanding of learning.

How many of you know what DP stands for?

True.

And migrants fill that gap yet still get the blame.

Agreed
State pension is a disgraceful pittance, modern day alms money given to those who often hardly paid buggervall whilst others did.
Dichotomy alright .

We wouldn’t pay Scandinavian tax rates for full social care no matter what anyone says .

This is genuine. I know a guy who has not worked for forty years. Last job he did he walked away from. Since then nada. He reckons he will get the full public pension in 18 months time, how does that work ?

I checked mine online and I’m 18 months short due to retirement, my choice I know. But I’ve been offered the opportunity to make it up by paying £900. Something isn’t right.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

After tax and any leveling up has ended from any private pension you may have, you will be lucky to see half of that. I'm £400 a month better off after paying in for 45 years
