This is a mess of entirely their own making. |
Taking back control has demonstrably failed. The end.

And on the way here, they passed several countries who could have given them refuge . Why didn’t they stay in those countries? It’s a rhetorical question btw. We are neither the world policeman nor health or social service.

They fled for around 3000 miles more than they should have. I have every sympathy for their deaths, no one should go like that but presumably they were safe the second they left Afghanistan. There’s no reason at all for them to come here. [Post edited 12 Aug 2023 22:44]

The Afghan resettlement scheme has been a disaster. That’s mainly why rescued from the boat the 6 men drowned from were Afghan women and children. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

We take far fewer refugees than many European countries- I’ll have to dig out the source but I believe we rank 22nd in Europe. Whether you like it or agree with it or not, they don’t have to stay in the first safe country. Of course the only option is to leave the EHCR and join up with Russia and Belarus. 5heyve no issue with immigrants. Of course if we did this, we could kiss goodbye to any U.S. cooperation/support. Say what you want about those Russians but they’re not lefty or woke.

They don't have to stay in the first safe country, but surely they have to accept that sympathy for their plight will recede in direct correlation to the number of them that they pass through on their way to the UK. If people have sympathy for refugees then the last thing that they should be doing is encouraging the traffickers who charge thousands to send them to their deaths in the Adriatic, the Med or the Channel.

Completely agree although the uk does have some additional attractions eg the English language. We take nothing like Germany or France do. The trafficking is awful and I’m furious the government’s answer is a barge. It’s not good enough.

This was a boat leaving France that got into trouble in French waters. Having checked Le Monde this morning it is only a minor story. She says migration issues are leading to some districts becoming no go zones in Paris and the issue is being played down by Macron after the recent riots, but the problems are not going away. https://www.lemonde.fr/en/

We are one of the more overcrowded countries in Europe. Plenty of room in other countries with safe sanctuary That’s what they are looking for, isn’t it. Safety . We rip our Tory run country to pieces yet these migrants seem to risk death to come to this island Odd isn’t it. Frankly,we know nothing about these young men ,primarily, who come here. Imagine you re a father in Dorset and have young girls when hundreds of young desperate migrants appear ,who have nothing to lose .

Thankfully the people of Llanelli are fighting the enforced deployment of 250 young men to the Stradey Park Hotel.

I would like to further add that these unaccompanied 'military age' males are at a physiological stage where sex-hormone testosterone levels is/are within the highest range. So the likelihood of them becoming either aggressive or sexually frustrated is increased significantly. They are hardly mellowed out 'pipe n' slippers' guys, of an age to be more interested in the online gardening D.I.Y section of B+Q when compared to the mood/behavioural-stimulating free porn that can be viewed via migrant hotel WI-FI. And of course this is the concern of Llanelli residents who are right justly worried about hundreds of UNDOCUMENTED young unaccompanied single men being housed within a community with so many females and children Lack of common sense, critical thinking and ability to see the 'bleeding-bloody-obvious' aside? The aforementioned fact(s) is another thing that the "all refugees welcome" brigade mysteriously fail to comprehend, or conveniently and blatantly choose to ignore!!!! .

Again, who are the all refugee welcome brigade? They must be incredibly powerful and well funded to consistently thwart a government with an 80 seat majority. The issue of young males coming in from Albania is a massive concern and stopping this should be a priority. However, the fact that most refugees are young males is not a surprise. They’re fighting age men in violent, war torn countries. Of course they want to get out and in turn bring their families over. Hard to do with the processing backlog though. Bear in mind that successful application for asylum over the past 15 years run at about 80%.

"The barge" is a place to live. Warm, clean, safe, with free food and medical care. You have followed the media and the luvvie politicians talking ac bout perfectly good clean accommodation as a dump and deterrent. It is political posturing instead of finding solutions. Obviously the legionnaire issue has to be sorted but it looked more comfortable than my student accommodation back in the 1980s. It is temporary accommodation. I was disgusted with William Hague who called it a "deterrent". Playing political football. Get things done mate!.
