Swansea City v Watford : Match day thread 18:37 - Oct 21 with 9938 viewsModeratorC

A chance for the Swans to get back on track. Watford defeated Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday by the odd goal in one !

Swansea City : Duff needs to get back on track 22nd Oct 2023 08:30
Swansea City take on Watford on Tuesday night at the Swansea.Com Stadium with a 7.45pm kick off. After Saturdays defeat at the hands of Leicester City, head coach Michael Duff will be determined to set the record straight. 1

Michael Duff has a few dilemmas ahead of him 23rd Oct 2023 08:00
Swansea City take on Watford tomorrow night at the Swansea.Com Stadium with the loss to Leicester City still ringing in their ears. Michael Duff may feel it’s time to rest at least one player in his squad. Charlie Patino or Jerry Yates perhaps ? 0

Swans battle cry for Hornets visit 24th Oct 2023 07:26
There’s a strong desire to put right the result of Saturday tonight at the Swansea.Com Stadium. Watford are the visitors and three points are most certainly required by the Swans. 0

Josh Tymon & Josh Key to face injury assessment today 24th Oct 2023 12:06
Josh Tymon and Josh Key both carried on playing with injuries on Saturday against Leicester City. Duff now has to wait for feedback on both before naming his side which is already injury hit for tonight’s home game against Watford ( Kick Off 7.45pm ) 0

Swansea City lose again in a disappointing display at home 24th Oct 2023 22:01
It could be said you can only take on so many injuries before the ship hits the rocks, and that was possibly the reasoning behind this defeat. However, those charged with the duty of playing for the Swans tonight really did fail to see the lighthouse warnings. 0

Changing to the three at the back was suppose to be more offensive out wide but with both Grimes and Fulton dropping needlessly back to deep to take the ball off defenders who can play the ball themselves, we were left wide open in the midfield, I believe that when you revert to three at the back the defensive midfielders need to be a lot more mobile, faster and read the game better to avert danger.

This, this and thrice this!

so who is to blame the players ie Fulton and Grimes or the manager?
Seems like those two slipped back into Russball though at times I thought Duff had found Russys Coa hinge notes as we were pedestrian

Yeah, even Rushworth has a few moments now.
Not sure what the answer is or who exactly is to blame .
It’s a concern though

Do t think it's anyone's fault, I suspect that duff doesn't want or is told by arsenal not to flog patino, perhaps that's why he didn't play any part on Tuesday.

Most of us know that when fulton and grimes play together they will not venture forward, which makes us play defensively and more balls are pumped forward to a striker who isn't used to trying to chase long balls or trying to hold the ball up.

When patino, grimes and paterson play together they all rotate in pushing forward as they are comfortable on the ball and they trust each other

It's a damn shame we don't have ntcham as he could be rotated with paterson and patino so we can keep up the positive play in the opposition half.

yes I agree it's a shame we lost Natchm,I don't think Ginneley getting injured has helped the cause and less hope the penny has dropped with Duff the Fulton and Grimes together an attacking game will not make

Maybe its time to take a gamble on Walsh and see how he can control a game.
It might turn out the biggest surprise of all.

I don’t think it’s his ability that will surprise us. It’s how long he can last without injury. He’ll if a shame for the boy, let’s hope he’s been put back together properly this time.

I truly hope so.
I’ve “ slagged him off” ,at least for him being sonperma injured but if he comes back and does a job for us then great .
Without doubt ,he should start before Fulton.
Biggest concern is how resilient he can be .

Think against Leicester we struggled defensively with lack of experience against better opposition.
Key didn't know whether to get tight to the winger or mark Dewsbury-Hall.
Darling didn't know whether to cover his young Centreback partner or Mark Dewsbury-Hall.
And Patino didn't know whether to push further up to contest the midfield or drop back to mark Dewsbury-Hall.
In all scenario all three struggled.

Grimes needs protection or covering one from hs lack of pace and two if we rely on him as our go to play maker were he gets targeted, it is a problem we have had for years.
Cooper tried as a middle 3 various combinations
Grimes, Fulton, Smith solid defensively uninspiring in attack.
Grimes, Fulton, Gallagher worked well until we lost his loan signing.
Grimes, Fulton, Hourihane poor both defensively and in attack.
Martin didn't really use a middle 3 with the back 3 and both Grimes and who ever partnered him eventually dropped so deep leaving the forwards and attacking midfielder isolated did the attacking midfielders need to drop back some what.

This year we settled for Patino, Paterson and Patino but against Leicester it didn't quite work defensively but I think against Watford it would have as we were too defensive with the loss of Key and with the confidence knock Ashby who is still finding his feet.
Duff trying to protecting Patino and Ashby
Against Watford to defensive changed to to Wing Backs but still looked unbalanced in the middle.

It is indeed nuts.

Normally, by November you get an idea of how the table is going to look. Think Leicester will fly it with either Ipswich if they can keep it up or Leeds. Doesn’t look good for sheff weds, qpr and probably Rotherham, anyone else in between this could end up anywhere…..few wins, couple of losses, few wins and so on…..

It’s always been a congested league, but this season is new territory surely ?

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.
