My logic is that Welsh people are a well defined ethnic group based on a number of criteria. They are no better or worse than anyone else. I however have an empathy with this group. You have rightly argued Celts may not be a race therefore insulting Welsh is not racist. The definition of race is not easy so now refer to the Welsh as an Celtic ethnic group.
A racial /ethnic slur is a racial / ethnic slur and all are equally repulsive . People who use them ritually and repeatedly against one group (for example Welsh) are highly likely to be minded to repeat slurs to other groups (e.g. Africans).
I am looking out for future Swansea city statements. Gillingham have a "zero tolerance" approach to racial /ethnic slurs. I wonder if Swansea have downgrade the "zero tolerance" to something less vigorous. [Post edited 29 Oct 2023 20:45]
