| Swansea City v Middlesbrough: Match day thread on 17:52 - Dec 16 by onehunglow | Roger. I’m not blaming him for the defeat today . I’m blaming him for the way he basically ruins us Why does he insist of playing centre half Why slow the game down when we should be speeding it up Why is his first thought to pass backwards or sideways Any opposition know he can be pressurised when he will give the ball away or simply lose it, meaning others will have to cover for him. He is central to our demise He defines slowness, lethagy, lack of ambition on the pitch . Walsh,in fairness looked way more positive before being taken off. A dumb move by Sheehan ,as was not bringing on Bolasie earlier Some can’t see it,some won’t You love him? Many do, some do not. If you look around ,you will see Roger Grimes “haters” |
I don’t love Grimes, I think he is a very skilful player though, he plays the way that our previous 4 managers have probably instructed him to. The same 4 managers who have selected him for virtually every game that he has been available.

Yep we could have had a home draw instead how exciting would that have been. [Post edited 16 Dec 2023 19:09]

He has skill. However, every manager we have had has done nothing for him, looking at him now. Are you seriously telling me he is the heartbeat of the team. It’s a nice conceit but a false one . Former manager Cooper buggered up two play offs,Russ ….!

If the next manager coming plays him and makes him captain how many will that be in a row four or five? But obviously you know better.

You may well be right Whitey. Does captain Grimes inspire you? Yes or no?

He doesn't need to inspire me, just do the job. Normally I'm against Grimes and Fulton together in midfield but today they were better IMO, not both sitting flat but taking turns to push forward. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Whitey. Captains have to lead ,inspire ,lead and organise . I wouldn’t have signed many players we have in recent years too. I certainly wouldn’t give already well paid players and extra 1 yr contract only for them to simply sit on the bench. We are not utilising our rescources correctly. Watching Ipswich today was a revelation. A club reborn, restarted and it’s why they sold 50,000 shirts. Ipswich .

Ipswich Town have a very good football history, especially during the Bobby Robson era.

Not really, I remember them winning the EUFA cup in the early 80’s.

| Swansea City v Middlesbrough: Match day thread on 17:45 - Dec 16 by ReslovenSwan1 | I blame the stand in manager. He set out for a draw. He had nothing to lose and should have gone for the throat. Get the lead then bring on Fulton and co. to close things out. Swansea teams over the years are not afraid to play and attack usually with two clever and fast wingers and a top class centre forward, The midfielder were sharp and nimble like Allen, De Guzman and Britton were. Now the team is boring and mechanical. We have ordinary joes like Cullen and Yates playing out of position who are not fast. Mechanical lumbering Grimes and Fulton in midfield. No blame on them the harder they work the further backward the club goes. They are rowing hard with a ship that has holes in it. Swansea have not had a reliable keeper on the books since Fabianski left FIVE YEARS AGO. No more loans. Develop for Swansea . Bring in young talent and develop it. |
The blame is at the top of the tree. The yanks aren’t going to invest in a good keeper nor the rest of the positions you mention. It’s all downgrades and loans. Coleman claimed duff was a ‘winner an a leader’. Look at how that turned out, Sheehan was never employed to be the manager.
| Swansea City v Middlesbrough: Match day thread on 10:46 - Dec 17 with 1001 views | RichardO | Just watch the highlights for the Middlesbrough first goal the issues created the opening and is the most telling as it changes the mindset of the defenders marking. Fulton nips in and gets ahead ahead of their midfielder gaining possession of the ball but the referee gets in the way not allowing Fulton to continue at the pace he had built up, if Fulton had clattered into the ref the game would surely of had to be stopped? Cabango had correctly come forward marking his player but Humpreys thinking we were in possession of the ball left his forward to give Fulton in possession an option. For me goal 100% the opening is caused by the bad positioning of the ref. Overall a much better preformance with the two goals conceded very much out of the hands of the temp manager. Some would question why Cooper came on for Walsh( who may have been protected given his injury history and game time) instead of Patino but as had been suggested is we may not have Patino for very long given the rumours, so do you build your team on players who are our own and not loans. Should Sheehan get the managers job with the three games seen most would say no but yesterday's showing some would say yes given he seems to have got a tune out of a team that had been playing poorly. Don't know if I want a new man coming in who has to learn all over again what our players can or cannot do. Can we afford a bedding in period? | | | |

You might actually be right.that post made me think. I’m beginning to think until we sort out our sourcing of players and how we operate nothing is going to change . If Sheehan wants the gig then maybe give him it

It is a gamble either way. We need to get players fit, blood some of our youngsters or even get new players in but please let's not go overboard with aged players the likes of Hourihane who added nothing to the squad. With Bolaise if we are paying within our means fine, who would we be able to get in during a January window anyway, lower league players running their contracts down, or similar players from aboard who may be more technically gifted players Make sure we are fine this season as early as possible and ring in the changes later in the season.

I agree with you. Patino was pretty hopeless yesterday, only half interested. If he had been pumped up and not a loanee going through the motions he definitely had chances to have created at least one goal for us yesterday.

On his way I think, credit to Paterson for not bottling out of some of his challenges yesterday.
