| A lot of kids dying in traffic collisions etc on 09:54 - Dec 22 by onehunglow | Felix. And on and on the carnage goes. Kids think they are immortal. We’ve got to reset their brains when driving . It’s awful. I’ve been to too much of this close up in my life and it doesn’t really go away |
Yet, when we bring in a 20mph limit to save lives, grown adults - experienced drivers, throw their toys out of the pram , and yell, it's govt control or taxation

Serious question, do you think those who broke the previous 30 mph limit will reduce their speed where the 20 mph is now in place.

Blanket 20mph zones do not save lives as research has proved. They are appropriate in accident blackspots and places like Schools and hospitals. The most dangerous roads in Wales are rural single carriageways A and B roads where Drakeford has cancelled all investments to improve safety. Unfortunately experienced adult who drive safely are perfectly untitled to point this out to our Masters. We still have free speech and democracy in this country unlike a lot of other countries I could mention.

people slow down for fixed cameras, theyprobably don't repair them because they don't bring in much income. Now mobile cameras probably catch a lot of people, they aren't in the same place all the time so catch people by surprise and raise a lot of money, you can come to your own conclusions.

The point is the locals know they are not working. As for some rural areas they haven't seen a mobile camera for years.

They do save lives. Down 20% in Spain and also the Netherlands, although I don't have any figures. Yes, we have democracy, but we cannot have that without law and order, something you seem quite willing to circumvent

I have never advocated circumventing law or order . That is illegal and offensive. Probably could be called libel. You seem happy to support putun when he breaks international law and orders his troops to commit war crimes. The people of Wales have voiced their democratic right to object to Senedd policies over 467,000 have signed the petition The 20mph limit saves lives in certain circumstances including accident blackspots outside schools and hospitals. A blanket ban on perfectly safe road does not.

Why don’t they or any govt address the main cause of death,ie, lack of skill, observation, control or car and control of mind. A mind that is alert will see thinking and braking distance maximised A dyckhead at 20 is more dangerous that a controlled driver travelling at 30 because the firmer won’t be appreciating or even noticing the hazard . Again,we are totally missing the point

"In certain circumstances". Nice selective editing. And even then it's far from definite. A 20mph limit outside a school on a Saturday afternoon makes no sense at all. Not sure why hospitals need one either. Every time I've driven past either Morriston or Singleton the lack of invalids throwing themselves into the carriageway has been noticeable. Speed limits on every road should be variable depending upon the circumstances and conditions. There's no sensible reason why a motorway should be 70mph at 9pm. Most of them are empty at that time of the day. Likewise urban roads during quiet times.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

What about those 3 young men in that Audi? What about this, https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/pure-diamond-son-killed-crash-2833 A speed limit only matters if it is obeyed and the cause of these deaths was never the 30 mph limit, it was always drink, drugs and bad/dangerous driving. These people don't obey speed limits so people will continue to be killed.

And we have to ask why they continue to drive impaired In the hands of a dope/ drink clown ,10 mph is too high a limit ,as is the case when texting on a phone whilst driving .

A petition is just that. We don't have direct democracy, we have a representative one. What about the other 2.8 million who haven't signed. Yes it does, 20mph is safer than 30mph, it's just common sense It didn't take you long to bring up Putin, when Benny Yahoo and his butchers have and iare doing far far worse, and Broken International law. They have also ignored more UN resolutions than the entire world put together.Let's see you condemn this!

Which is why I advocate making new drivers have small engined cars that have dash cams front and rear, black boes and have to have those new driver plates on display. Also make the penalties for speeding, driving dangerously or using a phone, drink/drug driving much harsher. AND, if somebody 25 or under is convicted they have their licence cancelled and they have to take their test again with driving whilst unqualified being automatic prison time. I say under 25 because kids brains aren't fully developed intil 25. If the Senedd/government really wants to save lives they have to do more because the idiots will ignore 20. Indeed, driving in my works van and sticking to 20 ALWAYS ends up with a queue of cars behind me so most people are ignoring it.

Very much agree with restrictions up to 25 when young adults still feel immortal ans don’t really assess risks properly. On a different note, when it comes to drugs and alcohol it’s not the 17-25 year old bracket we should be worried about - this generation now live like clean compared to the generation (or two) before.

17-25's clean? https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/pure-diamond-son-killed-crash-2833 That's not to say older people don't drink and drive mind. That's why punishments should be greater across the board.

Oh come on, Gwyn. When we discuss these accidents who is driving the vast majority of the time? They don't have to be drunk or high but they can still be young and stupid and drive like an absolute baboon. There is one thing that, in my opinion, is almost universally true and always will be. Young people, those below 25 will always think they know better, will think they are invincible and will take stupid chances AND will be spurred on by idiit friends to do crazy things and we all know how hard peer pressure can be to stand up to. There will always be exceptions but the vast majority of young people are capable of silliness to a dangerous level. And when driving a lot of young men let their testosterone rule them.

You both know my experience of these incidents. Ateotd it's down to speed, inexperience, invincibility and the biggest reason adrenaline. No matter what is done these accidents will always happen, its getting less anx less because of the cost of insurance but they will happen because the young are well young.

That’s pretty much what I posted, Cat. Totally agree with you about restrictions with under 25s as they’ll always think they’re invincible and will take risks. I just added when it comes to drink and drug driving it’s not the only age group to do it and we should bear that in mind.
